I suppose it depends on your definition of high hopes.
I took him towards the back end of the 2nd, if he had landed in a worse situation he would've been a late 3rd at best. I don't think he'll magically turn into a perennial WR1, but I could see him being a consistent WR3, maybe WR2.
Most leagues you could probably snag him in the 3rd round and I think he could return value at that price.

Depth guy in fantasy for his entire career is my guess. Agree with the takes that he is likely to be a better NFL asset than fantasy.

Man I watched his tape expecting to be underwhelmed because of how people talk about him around here and I couldn't have been more surprised. He looks the part to me. Solid athleticism and a real natural hands catcher who the ball just seems to stick to. Not overly tall but seems to get big around the ball (does he have long arms?).

He was more impressive to me than watching a bunch of balls get into the body of Kirk/Gallup/Moore on their tape.

Agreed. I read/watched a lot about him this week mostly looking for reasons not to take him at 2.07, but ended up really liking him. He just looks so smooth and focused out there.

I jumped up a few spots as he was available at 2.12 and I was surprised he was still there (didn't think he'd be around at 3.4). 2nd round pick and the 49ers moved up to get him. Wide open WR depth chart in SF w/Jimmy G/great situation. Happy to have him on my team at that price.

Yeah I was surprised to get him at 2.14 in a 14 team sf league. Even after taking out the 5 QBs it equates to the 2.11 in 12 team leagues which is great value imo

Kinda reminds me of people's view on Will Fuller after the 2016 draft. He was the 2nd WR off the board at #21 (after Corey Coleman, before Doctson/Treadwell/Shepard/Michael Thomas). People dismissing the early pick, viewing him as a better real-life player than fantasy producer. But he was productive right out of the gate.

Honestly, considering McKinnon became the Father Son and Holy Spirit after the 49ers paid up for him, it's head-scratching that a lot of people are just ignoring that the 49ers made an arguably bigger investment to get Pettis.

Eh. He disappeared after Week 4 of his rookie season. Then last year Watson made his box-scores look awesome for awhile, followed by a second disappearing act after Watson's injury.

Anyway, in terms of profile, Fuller and Pettis aren't very similar players. But I agree with you that people should be mindful of how high Pettis must've been on the Niners board, considering they traded up to get him. I suspect they view him as a potential long-term #2 WR, which isn't nothing, especially if one thinks highly of Jimmy Garoppolo.

What do we think about his future? He's making some big plays whenever he's healthy which hasnt been all that much unfortunately.

I really like him but I'm still very cautious. I think he can be a WR3 as long as he and Jimmy G are healthy. He has a ton more upside but I'm not counting on it.

Why not count on it?? What have you seen that makes you think that? Watched his tape on game pass. His ability to get off the line is very nice. I'm glad I have him.

Not sure why. Maybe it's just the odds of any young WR becoming a fantasy starter. Might be because he seems to have a small frame and will fight injuries more than most.
