Agreed. I don’t expect them to draft an alpha dog #1 WR, I’m pretty sure they want Pettis to be the do-it-all primary target.
Hmm. I think any team would find it hard to pass on the prototypical WR1 (physical measurements like Dez, Julio, Evans, etc) if they don't already have one. This is probably the biggest threat to Pettis after his own health.
I don’t disagree, but there’s gotta be one on the board/in the draft and it’s gotta make sense relative to the draft position and team needs. Niners are in the running for #1 overall so we’ll see what happens.

With where they are in the draft, I would think another pass rusher or a CB would be their first priority with MLB also up there.

Perused the tape. My favorite catch: https://twitter.com/richjmadrid/status/ ... 4122412032. Oh boy. Look how low he drops his hips into the break. A long-strider that can still get the hips low can do special things (e.g. AJ Green). Provided the DB respects his speed enough to fear the go/post, and provided Pettis makes the first ten yards look identical to when he actually does run those, a curl/comeback this well run against off-man coverage really isn't coverable.

Another example, last week against the Bucs, this time against press-man: https://twitter.com/FB_FilmAnalysis/sta ... 7454887936. Pay attention to any WR that can make his DB fall down with his break 10-15 yards downfield.

I’m getting excited. I grabbed him when someone dropped him 2 weeks ago in a 12 team ppr with 27 man rosters. Can’t believe I got him for free! What was I thinking benching him today for Tyreek, lol.

I'm still hoping for once we actually acquire a WR with size instead of rostering 6 slot receivers but you never know with John Lynch, he might even actually invest money in the offensive line and secondary for once this year too!
They spent a ton of Richburg. They used a top 10 pick on McGlinchey.

Secondary isn't the problem, lack of speed off the edge is the problem. All the pressure comes up the middle from Buckner.

Trade goes through tonight. I'm giving my late 2nd for Pettis. Feels like a real good deal on my end.

In my 12 man PPR where I'm doing an absolute overhaul of a rebuild and have a spectacularly talent-barren roster (Chris Ivory, Corey Clement and Doug Martin are my best RB's LOL), I was able to flip my Larry Fitz for Pettis straight up 2 weeks ago to a contending team.

Feeling excellent about it!

He's basically had 4 healthy games and smashed in 3 of them. With Nick Mullens mostly

Thanks I'm excited. It's the age old story......new owner comes in and wants pick to make the team his own. It's a late 2nd too but in his defense it's a 53 man IDP roster with balanced scoring so it's a good pick.

I snagged him off waivers in a 12 team league this week. The league seems to devalue wrs a lot. It is standard though so that's probably why.
Team 1: France Les Bleus: 20 team .5 ppr dynasty league. Starters in Bold
QB: Andrew Luck, Marcus Mariota
RB: Ezekiel Elliot, Alex Collins, D'onta Foreman, Chris Carson, James White, Kenneth Dixon
WR: Mike Williams, Chris Godwin, DJ Moore, Laquon Treadwell, Taywan Taylor, Josh Malone
TE: Eric Ebron, Hunter Henry, Adam Shaheen
D/ST: Patriots, Saints

Team 2: New England Patriots: 24 Team standard league. Starters in Bold
QB: Patrick Mahommes, Josh Rosen
RB: Royce Freeman, Nick Chubb, Phillip Lindsay, Derius Guice, Melvin Gordon
WR: DJ Moore, Courtland Sutton, DJ Chark, Desean Hamilton, Laquon Treadwell, Equanimous St. Brown, James Washington
TE: Gerald Everett, Adam Shaheen, Hunter Henry
Def: Titans

They'd only save 1 mil for '19 by waiving Garcon. Don't be so sure he gets cut.

As for Goodwin, he'll be back, and we know Jimmy has rapport with him.

I agree Pettis is the dynasty WR to target in SF, but he's still got his work cut out for him. His speculated rise to the top of the depth-chart by next year is no lock.

In regards to Pierre Garcon, $4.8M in already paid signing bonus would accelerate to 2019's cap if he was released but they would see $5.9M in real money savings by not paying his base salary and roster/workout bonuses.

The 49ers will have an outrageous amount of cap space when they carryover 2018 money so Garcon dead cap isn't a concern if they are ready to move on with Pettis.

They were shopping Garcon in trade talks at the deadline as well. I really feel like they move on in the offseason.

The point is there isn't much to gain from cutting Garcon. And rich market teams -- like the Niners -- generally only care about the cap. It's plausible the staff/GM decide the tiny cap savings from cutting Garcon are worth less than having him as a veteran presence on the depth-chart for one more year. It doesn't necessarily mean Garcon would retain a starter's role, though.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/2510 ... approaches

According to the reports, you're mis-characterizing it; Garcon wasn't being shopped by the Niners so much as being sniffed after by other teams. And evidently the Niners weren't interested enough to sell him.

While I'm sure they were only getting bargain-bin offers, it suggests the team still envisions a use for him in '19.

All the trouble with Garcon right now is his balky knee that can't seem to get right. It's troubled him all year. As of late October, the Niners seemed to believe Garcon would get past the issue sooner than later. That opinion could change -- if it does this offseason, or has already, then Garcon probably will be cut this offseason. But the implication as of the trade deadline is that the Niners believe Garcon can be a significant contributor next year if he's healthy.

WR3 seems high to me, I don't think he does better than WR8 or 9
