Dante Pettis ... What Is Happening?
Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
I really like Pettis as a talent. His routes are so nice, he reminds me of Keenan Allen. I think Jimmy G should be capable of supporting 2-2.5 solid pass catching threats next season, too. Kittle is locked in to one of those slots though so Pettis is probably going to have to be the #1 WR option to become an every week fantasy starter. Pettis has the inside track to that job though as I don't really expect them to acquire an alpha dog #1 through the draft.

Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
I haven't seen enough so far this year to have a confident opinion. His multi-week injury together with Jimmy's season-ending injury has really delayed my evaluation of Pettis, his situation, and his dynasty potential.
He's flashed, sure... but I'm talking like a number of instances I can still count on just one hand. That isn't enough of a sample to really mean anything.
In those instances, he's flashed some slick route-craft and release technique. That's great. But I need to see that happening consistently over multiple games. What I've yet to see at all is demonstration of contested/contacted catch ability. Run-after-catch ability has also been slow to show itself off; in theory he should have that based on his collegiate punt return prowess, but ofc this is a higher level of football. And speaking of his ability as a punt-returner, where the heck is that? I might be most surprised of all by that trait's no-show thus far.

Year 3. That is generally the breakout year for WR's. He very well may be a WR3 next year, but it largely depends on how much playing time he ends up getting. I could see him being similar to a Boyd....flashing good ability as a rookie, not getting enough playing time as a sophomore, and then breaking out year 3.

Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
Pettis got good separation in a lot of these catches, but I would bear in mind that TB is among the worst secondaries in the league. That said, the play where Pettis scored was a great route and demonstrates potential.Space Cowboy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 9:48 pm https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ybluW_R ... fullscreen
The only problem with this is that Pettis is what, 185-190 lbs? I don't know that Pettis can withstand the punishment of a lot of the catches that Allen makes in traffic. That said, I would assume that SF will draft or sign a true no. 1 WR in the offseason. The presence of another WR plus Kittle should make life easier for Pettis, but it would also likely cap his ceiling around a WR3 in PPR, maaaybe a WR2, kind of like Jamison Crowder or Sterling Shepard.

Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
Pettis is supposedly 195lbs now, according to the Niners. He does look like he has more bulk than he did on his Huskie tape, so it might be true.
One of my (very optimistic) comps for Pettis is Reggie Wayne, who was 6'0", 200lbs. I think at 6'1" 195lbs, Pettis has enough weight for play-strength. Now it depends on whether or not there's actually fight in the dog. That I dunno about yet.

Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
Now that the Goodwin training camp hype train went off a cliff and Garcon's bloated contract probably gets terminated, Dante Pettis is probably the most valuable dynasty WR the 49ers have by a wide margin.
I'm still hoping for once we actually acquire a WR with size instead of rostering 6 slot receivers but you never know with John Lynch, he might even actually invest money in the offensive line and secondary for once this year too!

Picked him up this morning. Not very deep rosters (12 team, 16 roster spots). Didn’t watch the game but the box score looked good

Oh my, Dante Pettis.
Lookin' forward to reviewing the tape.

Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
Pettis can fill the WR1 role in San Francisco. I suspect that’s the plan with him. They’ll need to bring in a big-bodied blocking type like Sanu to fill the secondary role. They have a couple guys that can fill the slot role.

Agreed. I don’t expect them to draft an alpha dog #1 WR, I’m pretty sure they want Pettis to be the do-it-all primary target.ericanadian wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 6:18 pm Pettis can fill the WR1 role in San Francisco. Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
Pettis is versatile and can line up at any spot. That's supposedly A Thing with Kyle Shanahan, something he specifically looks for in his WR1.
Glad to see Pettis finally coming online. Richie James keeps disappointing me, though.

Re: Dante Pettis 2019 WR3?
Hmm. I think any team would find it hard to pass on the prototypical WR1 (physical measurements like Dez, Julio, Evans, etc) if they don't already have one. This is probably the biggest threat to Pettis after his own health.PR0v3 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 02, 2018 6:40 pmAgreed. Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.
