Which rookie WR offers the most upside?

Postby berserkers » Sat Aug 31, 2019 1:00 am

These players slipped through the cracks of our rookie draft last May. Who should I spend my FAAB on and what percentage of it before the NFL season begins?

The answer is clearly Preston. He was highly regarded by scouts as a talent, and reportedly a 1st round talent in the eyes of some. Off-field and character concerns caused him to fall, which is obviously extremely concerning in todays climate, to fall from a day 1 or 2 pick to undrafted they must have been significant. Purely on field production wise though he hasn't come completely out left field.

I spent 100% of my FAAB on him in 2 leagues. In one of them it was needed, the other the next highest bid was 75%. I think he's the best bet to be this year's Phillip Lindsay.

Ooo Preston and it’s not particularly close. Besides the outside of football garbage, Preston was a high end recruit and would have been drafted quite high if not for said garbage. He’s the only one with number one upside, though it’s unlikely he reaches those heights. But you could say that about 99% of the wrs that have ever played in the pros. What’s the high end for the other two? Being a flex option. Stash and hold Williams if you have the space.

Re Preston... What are the off the field issues?

Knowing that is why he slid this whole way seems like he could have a lot of value. Of course, as long as the off the field issues are squared away

And a terrible workout.

Although in a way that is probably indicative of the character concerns, because the tape shows a guy dramatically more athletic than this workout indicates, which implies Preston tanked that workout because he didn't bother to prepare for any of it.

Williams clearly offers the most upside, but I think that ignores everything else like floor as well.

I'd think long and hard about Meyers.

The floor guy here for me is KeeSean. That floor may not be much north of Jason Avant, though.

I was able to land Preston Wilson in the 4th round, both Keesean Johnson and Meyers were drafted before Preston. I'm glad to see Preston leading the poll, but I don't think he has yet seperated much from the other two WRs, not yet.
I also don't think Preston was a round 1 talent...round 1 talents don't go undrafted. He was probably viewed more as a round 3 prospect, but fell due to concerns.

Out of those options, Preston offers the most upside by a good margin.

All of their floors are cut and out of the league within 2 years. Late round picks and waiver fliers are about high ceilings, which Prestons is undoubtedly the highest.

I don't think that's KeeSean's floor at this point, not when he's come in as a 6th round pick and immediately usurped the 2nd round pick and 4th round pick selected before him. How often does something like that happen? I don't know about fantasy upside, but early indicators suggest KeeSean Johnson will be in the league for a long time, simply because he's one of those 'good football players' that's steady and reliable, albeit maybe only as a career backup.

Ok so his floor is complete fantasy irrelevance?

Answer is still clearly Preston.

When we’re talking flyers waiver fodder is implied. We should only look at upside. Granted I would pick up all three if space allowed just for funsies.

Well, yeah, and that's how I voted too, because this thread is asking about upside. Floor discussion was a tangent. Preston's floor is he gets cut mid-season because his speculated character issues rear their head.
