Is Delone Carter pretty close to seeing alot of work?

Postby Risky bidness » Fri Jun 17, 2011 2:04 pm

Addai is a free agent and could re-sign with Indy, but after him I don't see anyone that is a major threat for carries. Donald Brown was a first rd pick, but I think he looks pretty whack. Brown could have a boost if Addai isn't back in a 3rd down role, but i think Carter could be a producer sooner then later.

I sure hope so.

Although looking back at previous drafts, the 4th round runningbacks usually don't amount to much. There's a reason why most teams passed on them 3 times. I'm hoping that Carter is one that beats the odds though.

I read some of this as well. I hoping this can be short term and he gets a shot. His YPC seemed pretty decent although in college maybe 5 or more per would be a better sign.

He is much more than a short yardage back for sure. He has every down RB ability and the build to carry the load. I don't think he will be waiting long to take over the starting gig.

Not so sure he'll amount to much more than a LenDale White type of back. He struggled in pass protecting in college and we all know how Manning gets with a RB he can't trust.

I don't know how the Colts would feel about having a feature back that doesn't have a role in the passing game.

tThink this will be clearer if they move/cut DBrown and Carter slots in behind Addai...they are obviously planning on a change of some sorts and they can't be happy with DBrown (so far). I think he's one injury away from seeing decent playing time - bigger issue is the Colts do not use the RB like they did when The Edge was back there!

Agreed. And the concerns about pass protection issues do not concern me. This is a common issue with many RBs coming out of school and something that can be taught.

Alright, While I don't necessarily like to put guys on the radar when my own R/FA draft is about to kick off, I have to say that Delone Carter is looking like the real deal.

I'd also say that concerns about his pass catching ability are absurd. He's basically a better version of Addai.

I say next year. I see him seeing more carries towards the end if this season, maybe 5-10 a game in the second half. Then taking over for addai next season maybe sooner if addai goes down. I read somewhere he was a solid pass catcher and blocker which is why they got him.

Better than Addai? Maybe between the tackles, but that's it. Time to tap the brakes on the blind optimism.

This was a piece of analysis that I tend to agree with:

"In closing, Delone Carter isn't going to step in a replace Joseph Addai. More likely, he can grow into an extremely serviceable North-South running back who, when coupled with a speedier backfield-mate, can provide some solid, dependable offense. I can't say he'll get you six yards a carry all game. But I'm pretty confident if you need him to get you two very tough yards on third down, he's a guy who can trust. I mean, have you seen that guy's biceps?"

From what I've read, character issues were a bit overblown, he doesn't really fumble, pass-blocking may improve with coaching, he wasn't asked to do much catching so it remains to be seen whether he can be a factor in the passing game (it's ridiculous to say he's a good pass catcher when Antwon Bailey was the one doing that).

Addai came into the league as a "NFL ready RB". His upside was limited from the beginning. Carter has an extremely high ceiling. He is more raw in many areas but there are comparisons to MJD that are valid. He CAN catch the football though he wasn't asked to do so on a regular basis. He does have enough speed to get around the edge. He has great power and vision. Skip is 100% that pass protection is a problem for many RBs that enter the league.

It is also time to tap the breaks on the blind pessimism. Just because an opinion doesn't match yours doesn't mean it isn't valid. This has very little to do with your response and just a general observation about DLF. For years it has been a great place to exchange opinions and debate. Now it seems like a place to state opinion as facts and no one has an open mind. I think people need to be willing to go beyond their own opinions in a lot of cases. Again...that last part has nothing to do with your post...just a general observation.
