Highly doubt he's retiring from the NFL to play for the XFL.

It sounds like this calf/ankle injury was/is a lot more serious than the Colts publicly let on.
I think its likely just the number of injuries. He had a serious shoulder injury and now a calf/ankle.

So Colts gonna suck for Tua?
I don't think they're bad enough to tank this year. They still have a very good offensive line and a defense that got better last year. But, if they do get a QB in the next few years, that's going to be a great situation they're walking into.

I'm completely stunned.
There were rumors that Luck was unhappy with the Colts and the way they protected him on the field and handled his injuries. Perhaps this is just Luck's complete frustration with everything Colts and his injuries.
Hard to imagine that he would simply retire and give up.

Not bad enough to tank!? do you forget the year that got them Luck. They started crappy QBs who ran out of the back of the endzone. You don't think that Irsay won't say just to take guys off the street and suck?

Wow. Well there's no preparing for that. Guess I'm in the market for a QB now.

The year they got Luck, their roster wasn't good.

No, Irsay is not going to tell the Chris Ballard, one of the best GM's in football, to replace one of the league's top up-and-coming rosters with trash to tank for a QB who isn't considered a franchise changer.

There is something up with this. Even if he is hurt why not just sit out and get paid? Makes Zero financial sense to walk away. His family might be loaded but no one just walks away from that much $$ left on his contract.

Hi, I was a passionate Colts fan during the Peyton Manning era there.

The Colts roster had become extremely top heavy, and Polian had been whiffing in the draft for years at that point. Manning made a weak roster much more competitive than it actually deserved to be. So when they lost him for the season, everything fell apart. It was a house of cards.

He could probably become a commentator or something and make big bank going forward.

Just shows you though that no amount of money is worth it if your body won't let you perform at a high level.

They might if they're already filthy rich, and every morning they're waking up in pain at age 29.

I wonder at Luck suddenly deciding to retire three weeks into preseason -- maybe he was hoping for and expecting his body to recover this offseason, and at this point it's become clear it didn't. And then he looked ahead to another decade of play in which even the offseason doesn't help him.

I'd also be worried about all the sub-concussive hits Luck has sustained. He had been hit a lot behind the joke O-line of the Grigson era, and contrary to what the NFL would like us to believe, concussions aren't even the main cause of CTE. What's extra millions to someone with brain tissue like swiss-cheese?

They might if they're already filthy rich because they haven't blown the money they've already gotten, and every morning they're waking up in pain.

Bingo.

Football is hell. There are so many injuries that don't show up on the injury report. Players wake up with something nagging them all the time. There comes a point where rehabbing from injury after injury and waking up with pain each day isn't worth it. It can absolutely be mentally draining. At some point, you think about life after football and you don't want to be rolling around in a wheelchair or walking with a cane to play with your kids.

It's why the Colts fans booing him off the field are bleep morons. Luck gave them everything he had under bad circumstances.
