Player Discussion: Deon Cain

Postby Prison_Mike » Tue Aug 20, 2019 12:19 pm

I own multiple shares of this guy - curious as to what other owners' perception is on Cain
He looked pretty solid against CLE the other night (obviously it's preseason)

Does he ever climb the depth chart?
Tough to imagine him as a high-end fantasy asset with Hilton, Campbell, etc. in the fold and seemingly way ahead of him

Also, what's his current value? - Sell for anything you can get? Buy for a 3rd? Hold & cross your fingers?

I like his upside. I think he surpasses Funchess this year and is a regular in 3 WR sets with Hilton, Campbell, and Cain. And with Campbell dealing with some injuries, might see some playing time even sooner than expected. He's a nice big target who's pretty talented and has Luck as his QB. Would need at least a 2nd to sell and buy pretty easily for a 3rd.

I think you need to be patient. TY has been dealing with nagging injuries the past few years, and only has 2 years left on his contract I believe. Funchess is only on a one year deal, and I’m not a huge believer in Campbell. Even if Campbell pans out, I can see Cain and Campbell running the show in the next few years.

Depends on roster sizes and who'd be getting cut to stash him. But if you're asking about your team in sig, I can probably count multiple players I'd cut to pick him up.

Patience is needed.

Campbell is going to get his.

TY is still there. Funchess to me screams one year then gone.

He's a good stash, but in reality, he's the 5th or 6th option in the passing game at best.

TY - Funchess - Campbell - Ebron - Doyle - Hines/Cain

I know it's popular to dismiss Funch on these boards, but Frank Reich loves him, so I highly doubt Cain leap frogs him anytime soon (def not this season).

Oh I’ve got patience with him for sure. On the contending teams I own him, I’m too-heavy & happy to wait it out

I have one orphan team that’s a 2-3 year rebuild and just got offered Cain for a 2020 3rd that’s most likely to be the 3.01 or 3.02

With some of these stashes you need to be Super Man patient at times. :)

Can't agree with this. You're putting both long term developmental guys like Campbell and short term competing guys like Funchess ahead of him. It's a muddled group- he can climb it or get buried.

I like Cain.

He was vying for a starting spot last year when he screwed up his knee and he is ahead of schedule on his return. Add to that that Ty Hilton isn't young and there are a lot of unproven guys after Ty.

I sold him in a short bench league on the heels of his big game the other week (in a package with Lamar Miller for a 2019 and 2020 2nd) and have him in another league where I'll likely end up holding him.

He's a good end of the bench stash that could pay off sooner rather than later but Luck's heath is also a concern but as always, depends on who else is available.

What is everyone doing with Cain now? Am I in the minority that still believes in him? It’s frustrating to see guys like Zach Paschal outproducing him, but his snap count is still very high.

Ehh.. he’s getting some reps but doesn’t seem to command many targets. But to be fair, I haven’t been able to watch the Colts games
