If I was a GM I would just grab one in the first every 4 years
A practice squad level talent can put up respectable numbers behind Dallas's Oline. There is no need to spend big money/draft capital on a running back. They may be one of the most important offensive pieces, but they are just so dirt cheap, and if you have the right pieces around them Alfred Morris can do well. Not a single team that has paid their running back big bucks has had it go in their favour, except maybe Zeke but he is still on his rookie deal anyways. Bell, DJ, Gurley, D Freeman; not a single one has been terribly relevant since getting paid.

RB is the most expendable position in the NFL. I can't think of a team that suffered long-term because they let a good RB walk. I wouldn't be opposed to spending a late first on one, because you get the value of those 4 +1 deals and a franchise tag if you really want to. But, more times than not it won't be worth it. Teams win SB's because of the QB, OL, and DL. If you look at the best RB's in the league:

If you build a good offensive line and develop the right scheme, you can churn out Pro Bowl-caliber years from late round RB's all day. The Shanahans have made a living doing this. Dallas must not have faith in their offensive scheme to give Zeke that much money.

No one in the league has higher mileage than AP and Gore, and they've been playing very well for their age for a while.
Unlike DJ, Henry has a clean bill of health entering his contract year.

Forget who said it in the Devy thread ... but mileage on a car doesn't matter so long as the maintenance record is clean.
He's out today for a game the Titans need badly (and fantasy owners need more), his bill of health isn't so clean now.

Ehhh, RB is arguably the least valuable position of all 22 starters. Spending 1/4 1sts on one seems like a bad idea. If I was a GM I don’t think I would ever spend more than 3rd on one lol.
The flip side is early/1st round RBs may be among the positions to be most certain to "hit". Mark Ingram may not be Barkley, but if you could get that level talent every 4 years, I bet teams like San Fran would be happy.

Well Nick Chubb was going to be the NFL leading rusher until Henry exploded for another monster game Week XVII - finishing with 1540 yards. Thats the most since Ezekiel Elliotts rookie year in 2016, but only ranks in as 70th best ever in the NFL. In non-ppr leagues he was likely RB2?

Seriously throwing shade, or being funny?

I get it's not a 2k season, but I'll take 1,500 yards from any back any season. Especially when it comes with 16 TDs!

Think he's just pointing out the facts. 70th best isn't a bad thing, but reminds us of how there aren't many 1 man bellcows in the league anymore. Henry is the closest to it this year and still didn't sniff the best ever.

Fair enough.

I also misread his post. Thought it was suggesting he was an RB2 as opposed to THE 2nd overall RB (which he was). That colored my whole (mis)understanding of the post.

Thats the correct interpretation. A monster year from Rushing Yardage / 300+ Carries standpoint unfortunately does not carry the same impact as it once did.

Hahaha still don't know what you're talking about. I'm blind to Derrick Henry and his 70th best season. Talk to me when he cracks the top 50
