You Can Trade Away RoJo Now... Last Chance?

Postby dlf_mikeh » Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:10 pm

If you know me then you know how low I've been on this kid. He's just... so bad.

This preseason game he had a handful of snaps and he didn't disappoint my assumption that he would probably fail yet again. When I heard he was working hard in the off-season I had some hope. When I heard that his off-season work wasn't film study and technique, I figured we'd see more of the same old Ronald Jones. Oh boy...

Image

Here we see Ronald attempt to block a linebacker on a pass play. If you can't make a block, you can't stay in the game.

Let's look at a running play...

A good job by the Bucs to setup blocks needed for RoJo to make some yards. There's no way any RB should be touched with a hole that size. Look at the right side downfield. One defender. There's one lineman getting slightly beat (middle of the pic) but that's bound to happen once in a while, so just run where there is nobody to threaten you. The blocking > defending, so something positive should come out of this, and a lot of great stuff if you're any good at your job.

What is RoJo doing!? He ran into the only defender that could even touch him, and his offensive lineman reset his feet and has him blocked again, so this should never have happened...

OK well he's free, but hitting the defender cost him because his momentum is no longer going downfield, and now his hips are turned to the sideline. No matter. There's only one defender there to stop him, and he's in the process of being blocked. As long as you give him some room and you use your amazing speed to get to the sideline, this is an easy pickup of an extra 5-10 yards or so. What could possibly go wrong?

Image

.......

The WR was in perfect position for this play, where even if the RB was forced to bounce outside (his own doing), the blocking was good enough to allow RoJo to run around the outside. This isn't some random WR btw, it's Chris Godwin. He knows what he's doing. He had him blocked well enough for a good gain, but once again RoJo got too close, allowing the defender to dive at his legs, forcing Ronald Jones to TAKE A STEP BACKWARDS to get by, then turn up field for a whopping gain of 1 extra yard.

Yikes.

Sell high. Do it now before it's too late. This is freakin terrible.

By the way: Andre Ellington, who is the Bucs #3 and came into the game only a few plays later, looked 10x better than this kid. Ellington was drafted by Arians and played all 4 years that Arians was the head coach in Arizona. If you're looking for a proper backup to Barber, and maybe even someone who takes over starting duties in Tampa Bay, I'd rather put my money on Ellington.

The fact that he got into the game in the 2nd quarter made me open my eyes. He looked quicker than fast, and that TD run was VERY nice. The following play though, the 2 point conversion, I wonder if he was supposed to run outside rather than inside. It's little things like that that make me question no-name rookies.

But, like I said, he played in the 2nd quarter and that's a big deal. If he plays in the 1st quarter at all next week, he'll be a guy to add asap in deep leagues.

Ogunbowale isn’t a rookie, and he was a RB2 in a pretty solid power 5 school that runs a lot and does it well, but given your expertise, I’m guessing you knew that.

Nope. This guy wasn't even on my radar until well after the game was played. There's about 8-10 RBs on ever roster right now. That's upwards of 320 RBs to keep track of. I narrow it down considerably. If you had him pegged as a guy to own already, then plant your flag my friend! GJ!

This is ridiculous
I know you're a RoJo believer. I'm just trying to persuade you before it's too late.

I know you saw those gifs. You can be a believer for as long as you like, and for what it's worth I hope I'm 100% wrong. I'd love to see every player in the NFL succeed, I just don't think it'll happen. He was in the game for what... 1 or 2 series? And it was just a few plays in until 2018 RoJo showed himself. There's no improvement.

Time to bail imo.

Idk if those gifs are regular speed but he looks kinda slow. Gaining weight probably wasn’t a good idea. Like him or not at least he was capable of hitting the homerun coming into the nfl

I just compared the bottom gif to the video, and it's precise. I didn't even think to consider he might be slower than last season.

Meh - I would still rather hold him for what the going rate is.
Do you want a logical debate?

I got into it with a poster merah last winter bc he was saying a lot of the same things. The bottom line is I cannot sell rojo, but he's worth more than a guy on the ww to me

I cannot even get a 2nd and haven't been able to do so since I started testing trade water in the mid to late 2018 season.

He remains a hold based off trade values

The press has been basically, "he's doing his job..but not even enough to take the job from barber".

Not exactly great press.

But I'll continue to hold as my bottom of the roster guy who, until Arians says otherwise..has upside.

It's the same old stuff on this forum

yah probalby true on Rojo, but nobody's buying him for anything of value. I couldn't even get a random 2nd for him a few weeks ago.

I sold Rojo for 2 2020 2nd round picks a while ago... there was a sell window about a month ago where the hype train was in full force.
