Jakobi Meyers the new Edelman?

Just a thought for one of my deeper teams. TB12 loves his former QBs and security blankets. Jakobi has also been lighting up camp and is undrafted (the Patriots way). Any thoughts on his long term outlook and whether any of this has any smoke to it? Thanks,

Meyers has been lining up on the outside for the most part. Harris is the leading slot guy behind Edelman with Berrios behind him. I don’t think Brady has the arm to make an elite receiver on the outside anymore. I think Cooks is probably your ceiling and that’s with pretty close to elite talent. Don’t think Meyers stacks up there.

Keep an eye on him but dont pay anything for him at this point. Plenty of guys have been awesome in camp then have sucked and plenty have been bad at camp then have been great. Training camp is fun but it doesnt mean much. Id say Chris Hogan at his best is his ceiling, which was valuable but nothing you would want to pay too much for.

He is certainly worth a speculative add - but as mentioned, he is not playing in the slot. He has been beating out Harry for the outside role.

More likely, he's the latest Kenbrell Thompkins.

Meyers is somewhat interesting, but I wouldn't pay more than $5 FAAB or a 4th for him.

Grabbed him for free off the wire, why not? I wouldn't pay very much for him.

He's great for free. He's questionable to invest anything of value in. I'll let him sit on my taxi squad unless someone better comes along before it locks.

Had my choice of both him and Harris and went Harris. Harris showed some last year, and TB12 likes his slot guys. Edeleman gets injured often so there's a good chance Harris will see the field some this year.

Meyers has lined up all over so far, so I think that bodes well to add value. Edelman will be the slot receiver when healthy for the next 2 years minimum. If Meyers can stick, which is a big IF after about 10 practices, then he has a better chance of being relevant if he is playing somewhere besides the slot.

Would you guys drop anyone on my roster for him? Maybe Crockett or Gaskin? I feel like even my longest of long shot flyer RBs have higher ceilings, but I’m open to differing opinions.

I'd drop Gaskin. He sounds like the 5th RB but your call.

Glad to hear someone else with the $5 faab value on him. I’m in a particularly deep league that allows 33 roster spots over the summer until requiring to trim down to 28 to start season and I already snuck Harris for free off waivers last week. In a league as deep as that where waivers a incredibly thin, a guy making this much noise on a team with a coach who could care less where/when you were drafted, I’ll easily pay $5 for him. In fact that was my current bid for him this week before finding this thread. This doesn’t seem like the same puff piece stuff we always hear about now. He’s been doing everything, is a hard worker with a high IQ given his ab background to pick up a complicated playbook, and as such I think he has legit chance to really do something.

Meyers has some upside and is worth rostering in deeper leagues, but there are two big issues that cap his fantasy ceiling:

1. Edelman and White are going to be the primary targets, and Ben Watson coming back after his suspension will be a red-zone threat. Even if Meyers wins the no. 2 WR job to start the season behind Edelman, I think it's still going to be a rotation between him, Dorsett, and Harry.

2. Best-case scenario, maybe Meyers can be what Malcolm Mitchell could've been had he stayed healthy, which is a boom-or-bust WR3/flex play. And even then, it's probably only for a season or two given that Brady just turned 42 years old.
