TREMON SMITH
DB, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Chiefs second-year CB Tremon Smith is moving to running back.
Smith was the 196th overall pick in last year's draft. He played 82 snaps on defense as a rookie and was a FCS All-American as a senior at Central Arkansas who picked off 15 career passes. We at least know he can catch. Smith ran a 4.32 forty at his Pro Day. He adds a speed element to the Chiefs' backfield where Smith will compete with Darrel Williams and rookie Darwin Thompson behind Damien Williams and Carlos Hyde.

I think this is just a sign of how dire their RB situation is

Apparently he's played snaps at RB before. Looks the part size and speed wise. He looked great as a return man, but I haven't seen any film on him taking RB snaps though. Worth a temporary end of roster stash until this clears up a little more in a few weeks?

Regardless, this at least shows the faith KC has in their current backfield...Especially considering that even though CB is arguably KC's thinnest position, that didn't stop them from searching there for the answer they need at RB.

Hopefully this helps all you weird Damien Williams truthers mentally prepare for his less than 400 yard season he's about to have to help soften the blow.

I interpreted the switch as smith just being a horrendous CB if he couldn’t crack the rotation in KC.

Likely just trying to stay on the team. I see he was a returner last year and has the speed. Only played 80 someodd snaps. Those end of roster players need to show that they can fill in in multiple spots to stay on the team.

I mean - they did change him to RB instead of outright cutting him.

Tend to agree. Outside of a few good games the Chiefs have potential issues at RB.

Maybe he will be better than Taiwan Jones.

You can count the number of 6 foot, sub 200 lb running backs who've played in a game since the 80's on one hand
