Rookie Draft Issue, need some opinions

When you are on the clock you are free to take any player still on the board as far as I am concerned. These shady agreements should not be happening in the first place IMO and any owner entering into one should be aware that getting burned is a distinct possibility.

That's why trades on the clock happen. You can agree to a plan, but if the draft has surprises, just don't make the trade.

Sure, So Owner A had Agreed to not take DK or Haskins (it is a 2qb league, so haskins' value is inflated).

Interestingly the way things transpired, Owner B had said he planned to take Haskins at 4 which is why he traded up, then after trying to trade pick 4 he changed his mind to take montgomery at 4. Several believe, although no way to know or confirm is that Owner B, after trading up to 4 found out that the owner picking at 5 wasnt going to take haskins, thus taking montgomery, and potentially pushing the value of DK and Haskins down. Also, Owner B new that Owner A was heavily targeting Sanders at 6, which based on league info was expected to be there at 6. It could be assumed Owner B was not going to take sanders because that was the Owner A target, but may have known by taking montgomery the Owner at pick 5 would, thus not making Owner A the sniper per say.

I am with you, and just like in the Tyreek Hill case, we all believe that some abuse happened, but there isnt enough evidence to pin it on someone

It’s all well and good to have these kinds of discussions—to some degree they happen at lower levels during every draft.

But there isn’t a universe where there is a “case” to be made either way.None of the aforementioned discussions are binding in any way.

the only binding elements are accepted trade offers within the league platform and made picks within the league platform.

The only remotely conceivable exception would be bylaws that address offline agreements between owners (conditional trades).

everything went exactly as it should and hopefully one or both teams learned a valuable lesson about verbal agreements and conditions.

dude that traded up and took a guy in front of his trade partner really threw it out of whack so i dont fault anyone for doing whatever they wanted to do in the moment to help their team because it became obvious the other owner didnt care about anyones team but theirs (as they should)

Since the original post was “rookie draft issue, need some opinions”, that sounds like a good discussion where the commish is asking for advice on if anything needed to be done to intervene?

If so, the answer is the No-est of No’s.

If I was commish, I would laugh at these guys and troll the for years to come. Hopefully they learned lessons on how to negotiate trades. It’s much better gamesmanship to say “I’m not targeting these players” instead of saying “I promise not to take these players”. If someone pushed me for a promise, I would tell them to suck it. Nor would I have the nerve to negotiate a trade with someone based on them promising not to take a certain player, and try to hold them to it. That’s just silly. And I would assume that if an owner was in front of me and didn’t want a certain player, that someone else is looking to trade into that spot and grab the player before me.
