Scotty Miller

Postby ericanadian » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:38 pm

Pros
Snubbed at the combine, but ran a 4.36 at his pro day. Solid agility numbers as well.
41.5% college dominator rating.
Breakout age at 19.1.
Drafted into a Bruce Arians offence which seems to perpetually find these undersized guys (Hilton, A. Brown & J. Brown) and turn them into superstars.
He’s playing the slot in OTAs and standing out (which would be expected of a speed guy).

Cons
Small School Prospect.
Extremely small at 5’9” 174 lbs.
Two elite talents ahead of him with Godwin & Evans coupled with Howard probably being ahead of him for targets.
6th Round pick.

Grab him late in your draft and thank me later.

Guys like him are a dime a dozen.
He is a decent deep flier but will probably be unrostered in most leagues one year from now.

Agree. Rather take a shot on Damiere Byrd in a deep league if I'm rostering a small deep threat. He has an easier path to relevance imo.

No idea what’s going on there to be honest. The reports from training camp barely acknowledge that he exists.

So I take it you don’t hold much value in college dominator? Also, I get that Arizona is in flux, but Fitz, Kirk & Isabella seem like locks to hold off Byrd and he’s probably behind Butler and White as well and Miller is positioned to be the slot guy right now.

I do, but the MAC vs SEC competition level isn't accounted for in CDR. Byrd's rating was pretty abysmal though. Byrd does have elite athletic metrics, flashed a bit on an NFL field last season before ending up on IR and has gotten strong reviews from camp thus far.

That being said they're both so small, I'll likely side with Phaded here and not roster either unless it's a deep best ball league.

The 2nd most important thing to remember with guys like Scotty Miller, Justin Watson, Jake Kumerow and so forth - is not that they do not make it. It is that occasionally one of them can make it.

Basically, if you shut your eyes to these guys - then every once in a while, you miss out on a potential gem. Thats how you find Thielen, Lindsay, Prescott and/or Kittles* on other teams rosters than yours.

The most important thing is to remember to (a) not overload your roster with these guys and (b) make a decision on when you're comfortable moving on.

Basically if you have a 25 man roster, stashing 2-3 Scott Millers is perfectly fine. However if your roster is comprised of 10 of them - either you really just finished a total teardown, or you're leaving safe/better/easier to trade assets to other owners.

* - Some forget Kittles ADP going into the 2017 season was sub 200 and he was rarely taken in 4 round rookie drafts.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

Fair enough, but what sort of adjustment do you put in place for the difference in competition? Miller is 40%+, and I generally use a mid to high 20% range as my cutoff, so he clears that barrier pretty cleanly.

I don't have one, just a mental note. 30% is solid anyway you slice it, as is his breakout age. Definitely not a hill I'd die on. AZ beat writer has said Byrd looks like the toughest cover and could be one of the top WRs on the team, take that for what it is. Byrd has elite speed, explosion and agility.

Miller has elite CDR and Breakout age.

Byrd is free in my league and Miller wasn't. That was the difference for me, albeit it's a deep league.

Miller was my final pick for team 4 in my sig for this year's startup. 22 man rosters for a 16 team league. I figured, why not? He's got a wide open depth chart to slot in as the #3 WR, and his profile fits the slot job that's open.
