CJ Spiller.

I could've sold him for so damn much after that one great season. I had a few people in my league telling me they'd take him as the first overall pick in a startup draft.

sigh

Lol, some of these names thrown out were never even considered to be studs. Not even during the annual off-season hype festival.

Aaron Hernandez killed it for a couple seasons.

I actually had a hard time coming up with this and I have gotten a lot better with this over time and it is not really a big issue for me anyone.

CPatt was probably the biggest one for me.

Players I gave up on prematurely however.. I have a laundry list of those.

Surprised I have not seen Gio yet. After his rookie year I think he was a top 5 dynasty back.
Gio and then Jeremy Hill :(

I thought Randall Cobb was going to continue being awesome after his huge year. He didn't.

Kelvin Benjamin - put up some numbers in his rookie season, but definitely superficial

Jonas Gray was a guy I grabbed off WW that year he went off. Then I had the opportunity to sell him for a late 1st but I “thought he had a huge future”. And I’ve been kicking myself for it since.

Most of the people mentioned were just hyped players who busted. A stud is typically a first round startup pick. The ones that I agree with as superficial studs since 2010 are:

Spiller - Crazy hype following his third year, never came close again
Lacy - Looked legit, fell apart quickly
Josh Gordon - this is tough and not all about his on-field talent, but he was some people's 1.01 after his breakout season and was never close to it even when playing
Jimmy Graham - he was above Gronk for a period, has been an immense disappointment since then without his value dropping significantly until recent years
TRich - I think he definitely counts. He was an RB1 his first year and an early first startup pick
Doug Martin - Uber-productive second half of his rookie year, partially because of a few games, never close since

I wanted to include Rashard Mendenhall, but he was a fringe 1st/2nd rounder and had two solid years. I probably should've included Alf, too, but he was a fringe 1st/2nd rounder.

Not sure about the rest, but Lacy was a 1st round startup pick at one point. At least he was the year I did my start up draft...
