Superficial Studs

Postby grandmabetty » Thu Jun 06, 2019 2:15 pm

Bored at work and i thought this might be a fun thread.

who are the players throughout time that you thought were ready to be breakout stars and instead became nothing. The players you touted as the next big thing only to break your roster and your spirit. Trent Richardson comes to mind although he did manage one or two good years. Last year it was Alex Collins for me. I bought in big and turned down some generous offers only to be burned.

Not one that I've ever owned, but I'd say Devante Parker fits the bill here.

One that I've owned that I held onto for far too long would be Kevin White. I just couldn't cut ties with him.

Oh i forgot about Kevin White! I sold him to a guy for 2 1st rd picks when he was coming back from injury cause he had a few good days in training camp. One of the more lopsided trades ive ever done

Hard to qualify this one, and there was a similar thread not too long ago. Two guys come to mind for me.

Travis Henry. Promising rookie year followed by two really great years. Then he busts for a couple, has one more decent-ish one, then disappears.

Steve Slaton. That I can recall, still the quickest from League Winning Mr Irrelevant to Bum ever.

Come on man!

You’ve never drafted/traded for a guy you thought would be huge, and he flopped? Ever?

That’s just no fun

man i remember Slaton had my league on fire for one year. people were clamoring over one another to get ahold of him. Another just came to mind and that's donte moncreif. i was in an all out battle to acquire him and lost to a guy who made Melvin Gordon available in his offer. This was about 3 or 4 years ago i think right after Gordons rookie year when everyone was down on him. I was so mad that i didn't talk to the guy who got moncrief for a month lol

He's referring specifically to Parker.

There are just too many to list. It's an inherent to fantasy sports. Sports, in general, even.

Yeah, I was referring to just Parker. He was just the biggest one that came to my mind, I remembered seeing him traded straight up for Zach Ertz a couple seasons ago. My list beyond Kevin White would probably include Kenneth Dixon, Breshad Perriman, CJ Prosise, and soon-to-be Josh Doctson unless he turns it around big time. I can't think of any more ATM, but I imagine there are a lot haha.

TE: Jermichael Finley

WR: I still think Ryan Broyles could have been very, very good, but his career ended because of injuries so I won’t call him a bust

QB - RG3 for me... went all in but only got one special year out of him
RB - Darren McFadden... never been more certain of a player... EVER. Loved talent, situation, all of it
WR - Michael Crabtree... Had some solid seasons, but his college play had me beyond excited to get this guy. Never quite got there.
TE - Jermichael Finley... went crazy and bought him in every single league. Had no doubt he was "the next Gates"

I'll find out this year if D'Onta Foreman makes this list. I sure hope not given both what I have spent to acquire him and turned down in order to keep him.

Going back a decade, [now Congressman] Anthony Gonzalez of the Colts. I thought that he could be top-14 WR in 2009. Oops.
