Hock & Fant Relative Rookie ADP

Postby OhCruelestRanter » Sun May 26, 2019 7:31 pm

I’m wondering how closely these two are being drafted to each other and whether or not we can use this data to figure out where to trade back to if you’re just targeting one of these TEs. Please vote if you’ve already done a rookie draft.

In a superflex draft at 2.01 I was deciding on the two an ended up picking Fant; Hockenson was the next pick. In a another, 1QB league, Hockenson went 1.10 and Fant at 2.04.

I've begun studying Fant.

He's been falling down my board since i started. It's not a freefall, but it might be if this overall class were better.

He plays soft even by move-TE standards, and I'm not sure he's actually good at catching footballs. I had Hock and Fant pretty close a month ago, but that's changed now. Fant is a superb athlete, but right now that's all he is.

id put hock at a tier above fant. he graded out as a top 5 nfl prospect for all to see. he doesn't get taken 1.1 in our drafts...cause its fantasy and te's are meh. plain and simple here...Id rather own hock from day 1 than hope to get either of the 2 with an early 2nd. I think he's fine to grab at 5 if somebody wants him...I think the real play is to get 6 and bait it, if you don't get what you like in terms of an offer, hock is the pick. at the end of the day...you know that you need to be in the 7-10 range and hope hock falls or be left settling for fant. if either is your target....7-12 would lock up either.id rather make the move up to 5 or 6 and lock up hockenson.

I've done 8 drafts so far and neither of them have lasted longer than 12th overall.

Their draft slot in each of those leagues:

Hockenson: 8th, 7th, 9th (SF league), 12th (SF), 6th (SF), 8th (SF), 11th (SF), 7th

Fant: 9th, 9th, 12th (SF), 12th (SF), 9th (SF), 12th (SF), 10th (SF), 10th

In all of my drafts, Hock and Fant have either gone one after the other or within two spots. I mostly play in TE Premium or 2TE leagues, for what it's worth.

12-team SF, PPR, TE premium, 0.25 PPCarry
1QB 2RB 2WR 1TE 1SF 4Flex
QB: Mahomes, Fields, Love
RB: Bijan, ETN, Pollard, Achane, Herbert
WR: Kupp, Hill, Metcalf, Ridley, Jeudy, D.J. M, Burks, Hollywood, Wan'Dale
TE: Kyle Pitts, Goedert

They are close, I have seen Fant go ahead of Hock in one of money leagues.

His game looks to translate well in today’s NFL as a move type TE and out of the slot.

I have them both with 1sr round grades; Hock is two picks higher imo but who knows for sure.

Fant should have a better rookie year due to Qb/system.

Hock went first in all three below
1.09, 2.02
1.06, 2.04
2.06, 2.09 (I made a trade to grab Hock at 2.06 here)

It is going to be interesting for sure - even 2 years later on the 2017 class we dont have any real separation on Howard/Engram & Njoku as the 3rd lagging a little behind so I fully expect that Hockenson/Fant & Smith may follow the same path. And this 2019 TE class could be as deep as the 2017 one, so don't be too surprised if a Kittle like TE pops up as well.

Ironically I just realized Kittle came from the same school as Hockenson & Fant, so his success may have subconsciously influenced the rise of the other 2.

Don't forget Dallas Clark. The Hawkeyes have produced a lot of good TEs. I think the ability to feature the position and send TEs up to the pros leads to better recruiting and then the better recruiting coupled with the system leads to more prospects finding NFL success, so the two kind of reinforce each other.

In the 12 Team PPR rookie drafts that I’ve been in so far, it’s been Hock-1.06, Fant-1.09, Hock-1.05, Fant-1.10, Hock-1.07, Fant-1.09. I think Fant will probably have the better fantasy numbers, at least starting off, it seems like the Lions are going to a more run based approach, so I’m not sure that Hockenson will get a bunch of targets.
