Kittle

Postby Fezzik » Tue Sep 25, 2018 10:33 am

So, what do we think about Kittle?

I stashed him on 2/3 rosters late last year. I liked what I saw. I'm not sure if he's a product of his environment (not much competition for targets) or not. I was going to make this thread before I saw Jimmy went down for the year with the ACL.

Where does he slot in long term in the TE rankings?
What do you pay for him if you need a TE?
What do you sell him for if he's not starting for 2 years for you barring injury?

Answering #1: Even after the Garoppolo injury, I think Kittle will still be middle to back end of the top 12 in scoring. He is highly athletic, and is THE "big" redzone target on the team. The WRs are all smallish of frame. Kittle will likely get plenty of red zone targets, and he has been getting open. Watching him play against the Vikings, Garoppolo simply misfired on a couple touchdowns that Kittle had gotten open for. He also overthrew Kittle on a deep route that looked like it would have been a long touchdown. His stats have been alright, but his showing breaking coverage has been even better. Likely a top 12 this year, with a possibly brighter future when Jimmy is back next year (unless Kittle ALSO gets injured and they bring in another TE).

Answering #2: I'd offer a 2nd and hope it gets done. I think he's worth a first, personally, just knowing how often firsts bust. I'd try paying two second rounders if one was not enough to open discussions.

Answering #3: Tight end is more often injured than RB...is it not? If you believe in Kittle, keep him even if you have a Gronk or Kelce in front of him. Just because he "won't start for two years," it doesn't mean he won't start. Tight end is crucial to have depth at. If you have Gronk AND Kelce (or some other elite option), then I'd try and get a team that considers themselves a contender (but is shaky) to give me their first.

He is my defacto starter after losing hunter henry and olson to injury. I agree with Valhalla his stats have been ok but his tape has been more impressive. I watched the Vikings game and he could have had 30 points had some throws been on target and garrapolo didn't miss him open. I am not sure how losing Jimmy will impact him. C.J. isn't that great at playing QB so theres that but also TE's can serve as safety valves to bad quarterbacks so my best guess is his value remains the same. I think if the ball bounces the right way for him he could finish as high as TE 8 this year but im thinking he settles in closer to TE 10-12

Well I think his yardage output potential definitely takes a hit without Garoppolo, so I wouldn't say it's a wash. The injury definitely hurts Kittle. There's just such a shortage of talent at TE and they are injured so often, that you have to grab depth where you can. That's why I still value him highly, even with his value taking a hit.

Paid a 19 3rd and 20 2nd for kittle which felt a touch overpay before season started and I'm liking the deal now

Jimmy G injury hurts production this year, start a different TE for a week or two to see what happens if possible, but there was very good chemistry between the two

Kittle would be a buy low target for me if his scoring tanks with the bleep show qb they're about to have. 49ers missing QB and RB will go tank mode for a draft pick and look much better next season

I would slot him as the TE6 overall in dynasty, behind the big three, Howard and Njoku. I wouldn’t fault someone for preferring Engram, but I don’t.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

WR: Nuk, Godwin, Cooper, Lockett, Flowers, Chark, Collins, Hollins, Tillman, Tolbert

Hull Awaits

QB: Lawrence $5/3, Richardson $5/5, Minshew $1/0, Jones $1/0, Heinicke $1/0, Tyrod $1/0
RB: Achane $4/4, Warren $2/4, Roschon $7/5, Dillon $4/1, Hubbard $2/1, Kelley $1/0

He's in the right offense, but Beathard is awful. Kittle didn't get much going with him last year, but we'll see how it goes.

Checking in on this one a month or so later. I'm now officially on board the Kittle express. He's good.

I'd buy for a late 1, sell for a high 1 in a rebuild. Mid 1, I'd hold. I think he's that good that he can be a consistent difference maker at TE going forward.

He's gotta be a top 8 TE, firmly in that not Gronk/Kelce/Ertz tier(side note:don't even know if Gronk will be in that tier after this year)

I’d take him right behind Ertz and Kelce. Same tier as Gronk. Not only is he a difference maker in the passing game but he’s a beast of a blocker. Never off the field.
