Lets Talk Hunter Henry

Postby Dynastychamp111 » Wed Mar 30, 2016 7:40 am

I can easily see him being selected in the First round of the nfl draft, but definitely the second. He has been rumored to be a possible selection for the packers, broncos, rams and Falcons. I am seriously considering him at 2.08 if he will even fall to there.

Player comparisons are Jason Witten and even Tyler Eifert. I have Gronk and Witten, and even though Tight ends are not a premium the NFL is really starting to feature them. This past years TE numbers are ridiculous. Only 17 WR's scored more than the 5th best TE (Olsen) in ppr leagues, and only 12 scored more than gronk.

Now not saying Hunter Henry enters the TE immediately, however Tight ends these days can easily be top 30 options at flex.

I don't think he's that special, to be honest.

Henry should be a good starting TE for a long time. He has a very high floor with few detrimental flaws. I'm not sure how high his receiving potential will be but I can see some Witten to his game.

I think a Witten ceiling and a special teamer floor. I like him, and if he lands in the right situation (Atlanta?) he could be a top 15 TE in a couple of years.

You're better off getting a Gary Barnidge from the waiver wire every year unless you can get a slightly discounted price on Gronk, Eifert, Olsen, Kelce, or even a Jordan Red type.

Somebody always over drafts a TE, let them hold the depreciating asset. Eric Ebron? Maxx Williams? Even Eifert was dirt cheap for a long time.

Completely agree.

The top TEs always get over drafted in rookie drafts and then owners are too impatient to let them develop.

Acquired Ebron for a late 2nd and Eifert for a late 2nd and J.Bell prior to last season. Both were taken late 1st round in rookie drafts.

He's in a good enough that offense with a QB that likes his TEs, but he's not a special talent in my eyes.

Hunter Henry Value

Postby McCloskey22 » Fri Aug 26, 2016 3:19 pm

Just grabbed him at the end of the 3rd round in draft. I am pretty set at TE but thought he was best player available.

I don't know much about him and didn't see any threads on him. Can anyone shed some light on him/offer up their opinion? Highlight reel looks decent enough, landing spot is very desireable. What type of production can you expect from him this year and moving forward

San Diego let Ladarius Green walk without much of a fight and we all know Gates is going to retire fairly soon. They then use a high second round pick on Hunter Henry. I'd say they really like him and he'll get a few chances to be the guy there once Gates retires.

I wouldn't expect him to be active enough this season to be a reliable start as long as Gates is playing too. As soon as next season though, he will have a great shot to be an impact player. If Gates is gone, he'll be a very popular guy at this time next season.

This year, not much should be expected, though Gates usually gets dinged up for a few games. Stay patient and you should be able to turn him into at least a small profit by this time next year. I, too, grabbed him in the end of the third in one draft and that is definitely nice value considering the draft class and who else was going before and around the same time.

As Friction pointed out, the key with TE talents, no matter what draft pedigree is patience. It's a tough position to learn and players develop slowly. Henry is a great pick for the Chargers. He's a very well-rounded TE with a high floor.

Everyone posting so far is right in the fact that TE's usually take a while to develop. However, Henry is probably more pro ready than most based on the offense he played in in college. The Chargers staff is already on record saying there will be more two TE sets this year, and that was before Stevie Johnson's injury. I think his ADP is ridiculously low (or is it high?) this year. I got him at 2.11 (ended up including him in a deal for Gio, but I was very happy to get him). Gates is praising his play etc. He's a capable blocker, and he'll stay on the field more often than most rookie TEs.
