Jets GM fired

Postby hockeyBjj » Wed May 15, 2019 10:51 am

The Jets fired general manager Mike Maccagnan on Wednesday morning and first-year coach Adam Gase will serve as interim general manager, team chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson said in a statement.

A few reports out say Gase and Maccagnan disagreed on free agent signings, particularly Gase wanting no part on paying for expensive rb Bell.

That's gonna be a heck of a sour locker room in NY I feel, and should raise at least some concerns of Bells usage

It’s tough working in sports in New York. The basketball team does horrible in the lottery, and the football GM gets fired. Doesn’t seem all that fair

Also, I would not have expected Jets GM to get fired before the Giants GM based on recent moves and draft picks...

Ah...you've gotta give Gettleman at least...four more years...to give him time with Daniel Jones. That's only fair...

At least, that's what Gettleman is praying

Considering Gase was a (the?) driving force behind Maccagnan's firing, and now it's being reported that he didn't want Bell all that much, we need to rethink the assumption that Bell will resume the same level of pass-game action his fantasy owners enjoyed with him in Pittsburgh.

Gase is enthusiastic regarding Crowder's acquisition, and Gase has a history of prioritzing TEs as receivers instead of blockers. Both Crowder and Herndon will do their thing primarily between the hashmarks. These tea-leaves suggest Bell's days of getting 70+ receptions in a season are concluded.

He's not anti-Bell, he was anti spending that much on the RB position. He has no choice over it now, and will use the players he has at his disposal and Bell is undoubtedly the best weapon they have on that offense. I expect them to use him heavily until they can get out of the deal and cut him.

Bell talked and sat his way out of Pittsburgh. Gase gave Ajayi the boot for far less... how long do you think it will take for Bell to be in the doghouse with Gase. He is the best RB they have and likely the best offensive weapon, but I don't think Gase will care.

Jay Ajayi isn't LeVeon Bell and wasn't a high profile/big money free agent acquisition. Gase's objection to the signing was the money it would cost, not the player that was being acquired.

Gase having a part in player acquisitions?
What could possibly go wrong?

Gase may be the most overrated coach out there who got talked up for being OC when Peyton Manning was QB. You know - the QB who is notorious for running the offense.

You have way too much faith in Gase. It's not like he has a GM to come down on him now for not using Bell. Woiuldn't surprise me if trade rumors start up.

It's not about my faith in Gase, it's just common sense. He's still going to have an owner wanting to know why he's not using a guy he's paying millions too, plus the NY media and fan base creating pressure. NOBODY is trading for him and his contract, so trade rumors will stay just that, they are completely stuck with him at this point. Now that they are committed and there is no way out the only logical thing to do is to use him heavily to take a burden off their young developing QB and lack of other playmakers around him. He'll get a large workload until the contract gets to the point it's feasible to get out of it with little to no impact on the cap.

Agree, him not wanting Bell was probably more about spending that kind of money on him rather than not thinking he was a good RB. Now that he's on the roster, I'm sure he'll be used the same he would if the GM was still there. Only concern I'd have is when Bell gets cut (if there's an out in his contract at any point). If there is, he's probably going to be gone the earliest they can get out of that contract.
