You're not right and it's an absolutely absurd take. This is textbook coach speak, they drafted him so high for a reason, but they aren't going to just heap praise on a rookie who is currently unavailable and not practicing yet. Is he supposed to say "Ya these vets suck, can't wait for the rookie to get healthy so I can bench them all."? We'll see how much, if any, of Training Camp he misses, that will decide how long it takes for him to take over the lead role in the committee. By the end of the season though he will be the primary RB on the team (barring injury of course).

To just write off a highly regarded RB drafted in the 2nd round 2 months after being drafted due to some scripted lines from a position coach and missing the start of mini-camp is "DumDum".

Just bc a coach says they will be a rbbc doesnt mean they will be one forever or atleast at somepoint that committee wont have a clear lead back.

Howard, although a very solid nfl running back isnt some uber talent and is in the last year of his deal.
None of the other running backs (outside of sproles who is gonna be 36) are all that talented.

Maybe Sanders might becomes a superstar, be mediocre or cometely bust but a coach saying it a rbbc during mini camp isnt going to foreshadow anything either way.

I would be more concerned if Sanders was healthy and participating in all activities and this was still the message coming from camp. The fact he has been out and it’s what we are hearing isn’t all surprising to me.

I will say though that I think some are downplaying Howard and his ability. People like to hate but the dude is a solid professional Rb. This year seems destined to be a RBBC. Now whether Philly retains Howard after this year will be the key question for me.

2018 Philly RBs:

Adams 120/511/3 rushing, 7/58/0 receiving, RB54 .5ppr
Smallwood 87/367/3, 28/230/2, RB41
Clement 68/259/2, 22/192/0, RB61
Ajayi 45/184/3, 5/20/0, RB79
Sproles 29/120/1, 15/160/2, RB73
——————————-
Totals 349/1341/12, 77/660/4, RB3

So last year the Philly RBs COMBINED(all 5 of them) to just barely beat out Christian McCaffery 334 points to 332 for RB3 overall in .5ppr. The highest finishing individual RB in Philly was RB41. 2017 was similar, if not worse, for their whole running back by committee corps. This is just a bad offense for RB production, plain and simple.

This year, and for the foreseeable future, Philly will continue spreading the ball around to roughly 4-5 RBs(they retain Adams, Smallwood, and Clement, and are adding Howard and Sanders). And even if they did employ a bellcow for 60-80% of their production, which they won’t even come close to doing, because of that offense that RBs ceiling would be capped at a pretty low number.

And on topic for this thread: on top of all of the above, the coaches say they will employ an RBBC, and Sanders is out of camp with a hamstring injury. His stock should be really hurting at this point, as his only chance to be a valuable fantasy asset is if Philly changes their scheme to employ a bellcow(and he is it) and to be more run heavy and to target RBs out of the backfield more and to not use specialist backs to do so...or if he changes teams in 2023.

I don’t totally agree with fantasydumdum, a lot of the time actually. But he’s not totally wrong here either. It’s not just Deuce talking “coach speak”. In fact, the coach didn’t even need to speak it, and it’s still the Sanders concern. I’m a die hard Eagles fan, and the philosophy is completely RBBC. If you’ve watched them over the last few years, it’s obvious. I don’t foresee a complete change in philosophy because we took a RB in the 2nd round. And I now the popular counter argument is “they never had an elite back to give all the work too before”. Fair maybe, but if you are touting a rookie as an elite back, maybe expectations are too high to start with. It’s entirely possible that Jordan Howard is the better player. Either way, they will be sharing carries along with others, I’d bet you that.

The point is that none of us know what will happen. If sanders ends up being way better than the rest of the backs he will get a lion share of the work. If he isnt head and shoulders above the rest he might not.

But to speak of these things in such certianty that bc a rookie missed mini camp and a couch says they want a rbbc that the rookie rb cant be productive for 4 years is crazy.

Trevor Davis is having a great mini camp. Just too many WR's in Green Bay, it's hard to pick after Adams and Allison etc.

The RBBC in 2018 was due, in large part, to injuries. In game one, Ajayi was the early down back with 15 of 27 carries with Sproles the passing down back receiving all 7 of the RB targets, before going down with injury.

Game two, Clement takes over the Sproles role and amasses 6 of the 8 RB targets. Ajayi injures his back and misses most of the first half while Smallwood takes over his role. He comes back in the second half and takes 7 of the 20 carries of the game with Smallwood getting seven of his own while Ajayi was out and Clement picking up the rest.

Ajayi sits in week three and it is truly a committee with Adams, Smallwood & Clement splitting work.

Ajayi comes back in week four and takes 15 of 20 carries while he and Smallwood split the targets. Ajayi gets hurt the following week and Smallwood takes over.

In my opinion, the plan was clearly to have an early down guy and a passing down guy with a CoP guy getting a couple carries here and there while largely being irrelevant. Once their lead back for both roles went down, they tried out everyone and they all pretty much failed, so they effectively went RBBC. I think they plan to run a two back system, but for me, that’s not really an RBBC.

It was the same thing in 2017 as in 2018. And 2016. Those are Pederson’s 3 years as HC. And oddly, it is the same in 2015 before Pederson. Have to go back to 2014 under Chip for Philly’s last RB1, Shady.

In Pederson’s 3 years, the best fantasy RB finishes for any RB in Philly(including Matthews, Blount, Ajayi, Adams, Sproles, Smallwood, Clement, Barner) are Sproles 164.5(.5ppr) and Matthews 138.1 in 2016. Those finishes would be good enough for RB22 and RB28 this last year.

Howard, Smallwood, Clement, and Adams still there, RBBC is clear and confirmed, as a Rookie is injured for camp. All that plus the above history of Pederson's Philly offenses makes the conclusion pretty obvious that Sanders is unlikely to break through above the mid 100s and the RB2/3 range this year or anytime before he has a change in staff/scheme/team.

It is a definite possibility that Sanders ceiling in Philly, because of the RBBC, is RB2/3. Unless things change there philosophically in a major way, that is a likelier outcome than that he becomes a RB1/2 or better in such a scheme.
You provide absolutely no justification for your position and expect everyone else to scream doomsday too, because why? A “major” philosophical change in the organization? Again, cmon man. This is pure conjecture with little, if any, substance behind it.

All that aside, do you not feel as if you are overreacting a bit? Some blurb from the coach in June means he might not be fantasy viable for another 4 years? C’mon. You have to see how hot takey you are coming across.

You're just straight up lying. I have provided plenty of justification. Nobody else has provided any beyond trolling, straw manning, and lying except for me.

Can you justify why Sanders should be expected to break into even the top 20 RBs anytime soon? And can you do it without fibbing like in the above post?
