Maryland Uprising here. I changed my team name from Maryland Mutiny last year for a change of scenery and looks like it worked out.

I finally completed the rebuild after I tore my team down in 2016 in anticipation of the 2017 class. Much of my success came from that class (Kamara, Mixon, Fournette). I also have Corey David and O.J. Howard.

This year I enter with the 1.08, 1.14 and then later picks following 4.01. I also feel like I have another early 1st since I picked up Guice early last year and obviously got nothing.

The league expands to add another FLEX position this year so depth is even more important. Looking forward to another draft, always one of my favorite times as a dynasty owner.

I actually book marked this draft last year. And was looking forward to today to follow. I like the commentary on some of the picks. You get to see someone else's thinking/logic pre draft on a player.

Yeah, I considered not posting it this year due to some push back in recent years by a few forum posters. Then one of my owners reminded me that he would never have been in the league if not for the annual forum threads. To be honest probably half of GEDL's owners have been posters cherry picked from these threads. This thread isn't a "hey look at us" or even an excuse to show off our league. its 100% about the rookies. At a time when people are getting mock drafted to death we offer a chance to see an actual draft that matters in the grand scheme of things. I've also found that posters are generally way more positive than not. The feedback we see in these threads is generally 90% positive TBH. We get the occasional poster asking "why should I care about your draft?" My answer is always the same. You don't have to. This thread isn't about our league. It's about the rookies. I'm not naive enough to think people tune in for us. Its all about where their favorite sleeper gets drafted or where did this years early bust candidate get taken. These threads all started about 7 years ago when I randomly mentioned I was in the middle of a draft and was asked to post it here on the forum. It has just ballooned from there.
Who was hassling you? Coogan? I think this is the perfect example of the type of league that belongs in this thread has something unconventional (early draft) that others can gain insight from. Thanks for posting!

Xenomorphs
1.01 Hakeem Butler
1.02 AJ Brown

Early on I had Josh Jacobs as my 1.01 and Harry 1.02 but the more film I watched of Butler and time spent researching, it became an easy choice for me. Lightening fast. Catches everything like a spider. Success against press coverage. I am not concerned about his limited route tree and I believe he will fix his drop issues. He has all the tools to be a stud, a very high ceiling.

AJ Brown can play inside and out. Equally as fast as Butler. Built like a truck. Over a 1000 yards back to back seasons at Miss. Love his film. Easy choice at 1.02.

The rookie fever always hits me every year.

When 1.05 was OTC, I traded Guice and picked up the 2.04.

I was trying to get one of my top 3 players, Brown, Metcalf or Jacobs and a little sugar on top and I was able to do that.

Yes I did. I offered Guice straight up for 1.01 a few weeks ago. That owner was pretty content on sticking and picking.

Offered 1.03 owner Guice for 1.03 and 2.03.

1.04 was the same owner I made the deal with.

I have been high on M. Sanders for awhile. Since I traded my picks away from this year (2.01) I am hoping your draft is foreshadowing of most drafts and he doesn't make it to 2.01 or I will be very disappointed I traded that pick away.

London Fog, here.

History
I joined two years ago, much like clarion, after years of being a fanboy. i was in the middle of dumping all my MFL leagues but, for GEDL, there was not even a moment's hesitation about accepting Mark's invitation.

I found myself in the middle of a rebuild which I had to undertake with no 1st round picks. so, that was fun.

in any event i undertook what i call the Water Buffalo strategy (named after that poster's rebuild technique). I could be 5-7 years away from relevance, so i chose to first anchor my team on the longest shelf-life assets (QB, then WR) and add the shortest 3-4 years later (RB) while caring least about the most replaceable (TE). I locked up QB first thing and invested what capital i had in WR, paying little to no attention to RB or TE, by design.

Plan
I entered this draft with 1.04 and 1.05, intent on further solidifying WR and worrying about RB in 1-2 more years...WR/WR was my plan, though I was willing to go WR/RB if JJ was there at 1.04. My top three were Butler, Brown and Harry, and as the first round started i had three specific thoughts:

1) please someone else take Metcalf so i don't have to.
2) if Butler and Harry go 1 and 2, then i'm taking Brown at 1.04 and couldn't be happier about that. i thought the odds of this were pretty good
3) if someone takes Metcalf, then its basically xmas for me. i'm getting one of my three top WRs and JJ worst case, if Metcalf and JJ go then i'm getting two of my top WRs. the only way this can go less than awesome is if JJ goes and metcalf doesn't.

The Draft

so yeah, JJ went at 1.03 and Metcalf didn't.

1.04: Harry. My 3rd choice of my top three, but no real hesitation. I would have preferred someone else to drop but this is gift horse in the mouth territory. There was no real thought of trading this pick.

1.05: On paper, this is a reasonable place to draft Metcalf. Many people would have taken him several picks earlier. I didn't feel right going WR/WR with metcalf and i didn't feel right about going WR/RB with Montgomery (my 2nd RB) or someone like sanders that early. i was willing to move back if someone wanted metcalf badly and i did receive some interesting offers, but i ended sending 1.05 + 2.04 for Guice. The Guice owner was pretty loaded at RB and, it turns out, was that person looking for Metcalf. I liked the value there quite a bit and would rather have Guice than JJ + 2.04, Metcalf + 2.04 or any other combination i could think of.

I'm out of things until the 3rd round so we will see how things shake out.
