Considering Gronk's surgery history, his body probably hurts all the time. He's filthy rich, has multiple rings, and just doesn't need to keep piling more hurt on hurt. By retiring now, he can take what's remaining of his bruised and battered youth and actually focus on enjoying his fortune in his 30s, hopefully without waking up in pain every day a few years from now.
Oh, he'll be waking up in pain every day, but it won't be because of football. It will be because of something that rhymes with fexually handsmitted tradeezes.

Definitely.

At first, I was like, crap, that sucks. Like the retirement was real.

Right now, I'm leaning towards this being contract hardball being played by Gronk's side. Like most Patriot stars, dude is grossly underpaid based on talent and performance.

Also, Gronk is impossible to predict.

In my ignorant opinion, I'd put the chances of him coming back at 15%. Possible but unlikely. He's generally considered a top all-time TE and has a few rings. Nothing left to prove in the NFL. He's been beaten and battered.

That may be a possibility, who knows?

During this past season, more towards the playoff and Superbowl time frame; I was thinking that Brady, Gronk, Edelman and Bellichick would all retire and call it a career at the same time. I just didn't know at that time whether it would be this year or next year. So in a sense, I was kinda surprised that Gronk decided to hang up his cleats while the other three stayed for another season

Apparently he sold his condo in Boston. I’d say the retirement is looking pretty legit

Now might be time to free up that roster spot

Hope he's enjoying retirement. Figured he'd at least be working out a few times a week because he enjoys it, but guess not.

One doesn't lose built up muscle mass rapidly just from not working out for a few months. It takes years of normal living, or disease, or some situation that prevents nearly all use of the muscle for a few months (e.g. a cast).

I'll assume that low quality photo is just misleading, rather than speculate he's got cancer or something.

There's a short amount of moving footage here. He is slim.

Actually, I think he looks much better in that decent res video. He has dropped weight, but not muscle.

It's not the cocaine in and of itself, it's when you stop eating and sleeping.

Muscle can atrophy very quickly without proper nutrition.

Additionally this man retired (at least in part) due to back issues. You know what helps alleviate back pain? Losing weight.....

I am guessing some part of this "thinning" out was done by design.

Regardless..... That dude in the picture is not playing NFL football anytime soon.

Jealous much? Of course you are.

(Insert Clever Team Name That May Contain Sexual Innuendo)
A bunch of league settings you won't read anyways....numbers and such

QB - A guy with only one or two good years left in the tank
RB1 - A guy who stands charged with several minor crimes (Guilty until proven, right?)
RB2 - Young guy that is only good because of his offensive line and workload
WR1 - A guy whose metrics make up for his stone hands
WR2 - A dude who is probably too short to catch the ball
TE - This guy played basketball, right?
DEF & K - I guess we are still doing this .. :wall: ...
