@gregauman
Video: Bucs coach Dirk Koetter talks about having what he considers four starting receivers and Chris Godwin definitely belonging in that group.

Jackson is already toast. Goodwin show his potential last year when djack was out as a wr2. I already have him so I do not know his cost but even if I like him I would not overpay for him. I like him better than ridley that said
This might be your opinion but it's not the Bucs. I work with a member of the Glazer family and they are expecting a huge year from DJax who they believe is now healthy and still in top form when healthy. I asked about Godwin and his reply was a nonchalant, "He's a good 3rd WR for us." Was not anywhere near as hyped as fantasy geeks are. They are intrigued by Justin Watson as well right now, who has been showing up well in camp.

I love what Godwin has put on tape down the stretch last year, but if the team doesn't believe and the offense is unstable (Nike just dropped Winston too), plus if they're adding targets by playing 2 TEs (which they will again this year), and RoJo on passing downs at least while he develops (was told Barber will definitely have a role, RoJo is not ready for 3 right out of the gate), then I would say Godwin is too expensive for his 2018 target share upside. I'll be looking to buy him mid-late season or next offseason if things go the way I've now come to believe, as some of the sunshine and roses from fantasy speculators will have worn off by then. In either case his upside is probably mid-WR2 with Evans getting a fantastic long term deal. Definitely not touching Godwin in the 7-8th round of startups right now, so I miss on him as my range for him is round 10-12.

Take it for what it's worth but an intriguing matchup for Godwin is Week 1 vs. New Orleans. Godwin blew up on them last year so could we see something similar in 2018?

The Bucs don't open their preseason until Thursday night at Miami, and there are nearly five weeks until the games count.

But make no mistake, Tampa Bay plans to start Godwin opposite Evans at receiver this season.

Jackson, 31, only had 50 catches for 668 yards and three touchdowns last season. By all accounts, he's having a great training camp and still possesses rare speed to get behind any defense.

But Godwin, 22, is a more complete player. At 6 feet 1, 209 pound, has size to go with speed and a willingness to provide help as a blocker in the run game.

NFL depth charts typically list only two players at receiver, and the Bucs won't release one that matters until the week of their Sept. 9 regular-season opener at New Orleans. Regardless what it might or might not say, Godwin is well on his way to winning the job.

And Stevie Johnson. Scott Chandler too to a lesser extent.

I don't think his usage early will be worthwhile to count on for starting .. its when he outsnaps DJax we should pay attention ...

Word is DJax has been practicing (and excelling) in the slot, opening a spot for Godwin in 3-WR sets. Does this change anyone’s outlook on Godwin’s 2018 production?

I think he will probably land just south of doubling his numbers from last year.

I’m fixing to trade Parker for Godwin and a pick. I’m over Parker and word is that he is struggling at camp big time. Plus I’m super high on Godwin too and we saw how good he was when he was finally given a chance last year.

Take it. Parker is a bust. He is having another garbage camp (as is Tannehill)

All indications is Godwin will play outside. Wouldnt that mean he is on the field more than the guy playing the slot?

WR2 potential, maybe. As long as Evans is there, I doubt WR1 is a reality.

Not necessarily. They may already know Godwin can play slot and what DJax can do out wide. To avoid predictability when they go 3 wide, they may want to see how DJax plays in the slot. Put DJax's speed against a slot corner who's used to facing quick-cutting WRs.
