Who does OAK sign at RB?

Postby whodatbama » Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:18 am

What can we expect Oakland to do at RB?
Lynch, Martin, and Richard remain unsigned.

Will Oak make a trade or pickup RB in draft?

Just curious what rumors may be floating around.

I'm pretty sure Warrick Dunn is available, lol.

I think the Raiders placed a second round tender on Richard, so I'd expect him to be back. Wouldn't shock me if Lynch was back either.

I was sure they'd sign Ajayi -- a big bodied banger who's also a veteran, right up Gruden's alley.

Now I'm sure they'll draft a guy. Look for Montgomery or Jacobs -- I'm guessing Gruden wants to spend some capital on a feature back. Could see Harris or Anderson a little later, too. Don't think anyone else in this draft has the size and/or allure Gruden's after.

I doubt Lynch is back but wouldn't shock me.

I expect Lynch is a good possibility to be re-signed at some point - I have not seen any indications yet that the Raiders were unhappy with his performance last year & they did seem to feature him fairly well. Lynch marches at his own pace so he may be taking as long as he wants to decide if he wants to return & I wouldnt be surprised if waiting to see where the Raiders would play in 2019 had a part in it.

In all seriousness, Gruden has historically seemed to have versatile RBs, and used to a bunch of different guys to fill rolls. I'm not sure he's ever really used a true workhorse back, so this could go a lot of ways (with a bunch of different guys). In the draft, I think any of Jacobs, Harris and Montgomery would seem to fit the Gruden mold. Maybe Henderson as well. I haven't seen them reported as having any visits/meetings with RBs, so this is 100% me speculating (I've read their focus will be mostly on defense in the draft, and outside of wr visits, their pre-draft visits seem to re-enforce this notion).

Of the FAs left, again, I have not seen any of the guys attached to Oakland. I honestly think Martin and Richard will be back, but you never know until it happens (Lynch too, if he wants to play. I think thats completely on Lynch whether he comes back). Wouldn't be surprised if a guy like Ware or Yeldon ends up there. I'd attach a guy like Alfred Morris to Oakland until he signs elsewhere, lol.

Yeah. They certainly won't be drafting a RB with any of their first four picks, so it depends who falls.

I would expect them to keep Richard, sign Lynch and draft an RB in the 4th.

This is what I feel to. I think if they were to draft 1st or 2nd round rb I'd be super pissed off as a raiders fan.

I’m surprised that more people see Lynch coming back than Martin. He finished the year strong and will likely come cheap as guys his age don’t tend to get a lot of options.

Would that be your first time?

I expect them to draft one early.

Whatever happens could offer a great insight into the power structure there. Feels like Mayock wouldn't draft an RB early but Gruden is so impulsive that he just might.

My understanding is that Mayock wasn't real interested in Antonio Brown until it became clear he could be had for a bargain deal in terms of picks.

The Mayock/Gruden dynamic will be fascinating.

Richard/Warren/insignificant rookie(s)*

*Maybe Lynch too, since they are still in the Bay Area another year.

They slapped a second-round tender on undrafted Richard. It doesn't need to be said that they're keeping him, it should go without saying.

As for the leadback... I suspect it'll end up an open competition in TC. Warren will get a chance, along with whoever else they add.

Gruden flies by the seat of his pants so this depth-chart is anyone's guess. Imo the only 'safe' expectation is that Richard resumes being Gruden's ghost of Charlie Garner.
