Case Keenum traded to the Redskins

Postby Phaded » Thu Mar 07, 2019 4:00 pm

...poor Skins fans.
They are just trying to be one of those franchises.

I’m still a Keenum fan. Hope he does well. I think he can be better than we saw him play in Denver. A better NFL player / teammate than fantasy asset for sure. Ideally, he’d be a very nice backup.

He was almost free so its not a bad move, if they can aquire Rosen it gives them decent qb depth and a potential 10 year starter in Rosen

Seems like a watered down version of Alex Smith, tbh. They didn’t give up much for him though, so there’s that. I would think there’s a decent chance they take a QB in the first round, assuming they don’t trade for Rosen.

Gruden had some success with Dalton, so no real reason he can’t get something out of Keenum. I feel like they’re similar players, but Dalton’s had better situations on the whole.

Since 1989, the Redskins have had one good QB (Kirk Cousins) and they ran him out of town because they mismanaged his negotiations and were too egotistical to admit it publicly.

So, to replace him they gave a 34-year-old Alex Smith $71 million guaranteed, which is significantly more than they could've locked Kirk Cousins up for at one point.

Also, at one point the Redskins had Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan on the same coaching staff for three years and kept neither.

One of the worst run teams in sports.

Why does the OP frame this as terrible for the Skins? They desperately need a stop-gap solution at QB for '19, and I think Keenum is fine for that. He's not gonna lead a pass-first offense, but I don't think that's the Skins' plan.

That said, I agree 100% with Mr. Giles up there.

I frame this as terrible because the Redskins continue to pursue stopgap QB after stopgap QB instead of genuinely addressing the issue.

They are a horribly run franchise and I feel for any Skins fans.

Keenum is a decent back-up but that is all he is.

I agree with the OP except on the fact that keenum was actually free in this trade. a 6th/7th swap NEXT YEAR means absolutely nothing.

Personally as a multiple share guice owner, I'm jacked about this. Worst case for this year would have been taking Locke or Daniel Jones at 15. Now hopefully they get another weapon for offense there and case is much better than other of those two would have been this season.

Agree with everything except that they have only had 1 good QB in 30 years - unless you're referring only to those that they drafted.

Mark Brunell
Trent Green
Donovan McNabb
Brad Johnson

But the point definitely remains that the Redskins are a prime example of what happens when a team misdrafts & / or mismanages the QB position for a long period of time. It is already tough enough to get good QBs, then to waste the ones that fall into your lap ...

Skins suck because their ownership sucks.

You don't think they'll draft a rookie QB, just because they got Keenum?

Regardless, Keenum can game-manage a non-contender and do better at it than most current clipboard holders in the league.

I don't get why Washington didn't go for Rosen, if his price really is a 3rd. At least pretend like you're trying to fix your franchise man!
