Player Ages.

Postby FantasyFreak » Tue Mar 05, 2019 12:29 am

Why is it so hard to get reliable sources on player ages? I see discrepancies on MFL vs other sites all the time. There was a big issue with Kevin White a few years ago, when people thought he was 22 vs 23. Now apparently I'm seeing Parris Campbell is almost 23 as opposed to being 21. Now Kelvin Harmon is a year older than I'd seen, apparently. 21 vs almost 23!! (yuck). WTF   . It's a birth certificate. What's going on? Anybody have the most accurate source?

Having the same difficulties and would love a good source... I did this last year and don't remember any issue. Maybe because I waited until July or August the info was more available. Or maybe this class is that bad lol

It's not easy to get a good DOB. You suggest "hey just get the birth certificate" but yeah, not so easy. very time consuming, and especially if a somewhat trustworthy source has a dob (like NFL.com or wikipedia), then you just kind of need to roll with it and trust they are accurate. We try to confirm the DOB's we use in our player database. Many come from our stats provider ArmchairAnalysis but I've found some of those are not consistent with other reliable sources. It's a challenge, for sure.

Harmon is likely older than he initially let on. There were tweets he tried deleting feom years ago that gave indications to his current age.

Campbell is an interesting case. Someone mentioned in another thread that he graduated high school early and thats why he was in college till now. I have no idea if thats true or if I was being trolled. But his age is also in question.

Its rather annoying.

As far as Campbell goes, I was the one who mentioned him graduating high school early, and it was legit.

Those that know Campbell well vouch for the fact that Campbell is still growing into his body. This is truer for Campbell than it is for most prospects. Ohio State fans may not know this, but Campbell actually skipped a grade in kindergarten. He was born in July of 1997. He will still be sixteen years old when he enrolls at Ohio State./quote]
