non-sexy topic: Tyrell Williams

what are thoughts on this guy? I know it seems he'll stick around on the chargers. I'm curious about 4 points

1. What is his value IF Mike Williams and Keenan Allen are healthy, with an up-and-coming Hunter Henry?

2. What are the odds that he stays on the Chargers

3. Can we see him put up potential WR2 numbers in years to come if he is moved, or if Mike ends up to being a giant bust?

4. What's his going price currently? i feel he can be had for relatively cheap.

for me he is a solid depth add , chargers placed a 2nd round tender IIRC that tells me they value him much much higher than say the bears value cam meredith who can sign with anyone and bears only have the right to match, as opposed to williams which would cost a team a 2nd round pick to sign. I would add him for a pick in 25 range so a mid 2nd in a 16 team league which is mainly what I play in or an early 3rd in a 12 team league. I would especially want him if I owned either of the other bolts wr as allen has had durability issues , and Mike williams perhaps has durability and ability issues .

i like guys like him or Rishard Mathews, even Willie Snead and taking them on very cheaply, 4th and 5th round picks. they have shown the ability, they just need a role

Great topic! Not going to lie, as a Mike Williams fan, the tender that the Chargers put on Tyrell was not a pleasant surprise.

As a Tyrell Williams fan I was hoping he was going to sign elsewhere. I do own both in one league and was still hoping he would sign elsewhere in that one. Give them both the chance to have the same role instead of competing for targets. More worried about Mike tbh

I see the same issue that's plagued LAC for the last couple of years. Rivers spreads it around, which makes any LAC player not named Gordon or Allen very boom-bust week to week. I have very little interest in any LAC WR outside of Allen, and I think Henry is overvalued by a little for that same reason. Also, I expect their defense to be top-5 in the league this year barring injury, which will lead to fewer passing attempts overall as well.

I think he could be on a Rishard Matthews-like career trajectory. He is a good hold for when he is a UFA next year, but he does need to keep improving his craft for him to make an impact like Mathews has in Tennessee.

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd expect much from him. Even with Mike Williams hurt most of the season and Henry splitting time with Gates, he still had a very lackluster season. I don't see things getting better for him this year in LA (almost said San Diego). If he were to go somewhere else, it would have to be to a team that has a good QB and no WR depth...can't think of anyone like that at the moment. He'll never be more than a WR2 on a team, and that's probably being hopeful.

I like TW too and this was my hope as well. As far as who I'm more worried about, if the Chargers signed TW to a long term deal like Allen Hurns I'd be WAY more concerned for MW. Only thing hold MW back is his health and development. If he struggles to stay on the field again this season I do believe TW will capitalize.

I’m also thinking life-after Rivers. High probably of them going into a rebuilding mode, and plain sucking at QB for a while, even if Mike is a giant bust and TWill gets Number 2 duties. He seems like a nice dart throw to have at the end of the bench, maybe for a future 3rd-4th rounder. Our waiver wire is also nice and loaded with guys like Ekeler and Clement (currently adds are closed).

Great points Goddard. Was hoping you would post on this, and TBH I thought I remembered you bringing him up on other posts and being a fan of his. May be wrong.

I am/was, but I was pretty disappointed last year. I still think he has some talent, but I'd temper my expectations, especially if he stays with the Chargers.

He's pretty worthless as long as Keenan Allen is healthy.

excellent player. One of the most efficient receivers in the league last year, granted it was on small volume. The chargers clearly value him extremely highly, they placed a second round (!) tender on him, even after just drafting Mike Williams. I cam comfortably say he is better than Mike Williams.
