Impact of Arians to the Bucs

Postby Fezzik » Mon Jan 07, 2019 10:41 am

Looks like this is going to be announced soon. What do we think?

This might mean D Jax stays (would be good news for DJax owners to be in this system).

Evans?

Winston?

Howard? - This is the main reason I started the thread. I know he doesn't use TE's a lot, but if you have an OJ Howard you have to find a way to get him the ball, no? Even with the other weapons.

It's good for whatever QB they end up running with.

DJax will be another under the radar great play if he's there.

I think I like it for Evans.

I don't think I like it for OJH, but he'll still get his.

I don't think it's good for any RB currently on the roster.

Love it for Winston (there is no way he isn't there next year) and for Evans. I could see Arians wanting to go after Bell since he fits DJ's mold.

Godwin and Winston are the biggest winners on paper here. Evans is going to produce regardless, so can't imagine his value increasing much. But, Godwin in the J. Brown/Hilton role would be pretty good. I think Jackson is cut. They can move on from him and save $10M with no dead cap. Brate can be cut to save $7M.

Then, there's the matter of who the RB is.

Djax has said hes moving on. I dont think Arians changes that. Djax does not have chemistry with Winston. Evans is safe, Godwin bumps up, Howard bumps down. And the Rojo owner in my league thinks hes struck gold all of a sudden. Cant wait for him to get smacked with reality.

I picked up RoJo as a throw-in on a trade during the season. I think the Bucs sign a FA RB and RoJo never sees the light of day. But I like the fact that others are thinking positively of him in an Arians offense!

Didn't even think about his lack of love for TEs, good point. Arians is smart though and gets the very most out of his offense, OJ should be fine.

They'll surely be adding a pass catching back. Arians loves his scat backs.

John Carlson, Rob Housler, Darren Fells and an aging well-past-his prime Jermaine Gresham were Arians’ TEs in Arizona and you guys are blaming Arians’ playcalling on why the TEs weren’t used more in his offense. Smh

If I could swindle OJ Howard from his owner on the basis that Arians doesn’t use TEs I’d do it all day. Howard is a special talent and will be incorporated into whatever offense Arians runs.

But there was a report that Jones caught a pass in OTA's.

Heath Miller was pretty good in Pitt. 2009 he had 800 yards in particular.

.
I was hoping Bruce Airans would be going to Green Bay. Oh well.

I don't own any TB players; but I see this as a positive for Evans, Humphries and Winston or whatever QB they have next year.

As far as the concern with OJ Howard, Bruce Airans is a smart coach; and I feel that he will find a way to utilize OJ Howard; even if he puts OJ in a more WR role such as the way Olsen is utilized in Carolina or the way New Orleans used to utilize Jimmy Graham. OJ will be getting the ball.

I don't think the RB for the 2019 Bucs is on the roster as of now; but I think this is the case with whomever is named the new coach.

Same for me with RoJo, picked him up for free basically. If he doesn’t get a whiff in the first half of the season with the new regime, it’s gotta be time to cut bait. If a big name FA that isn’t almost 30 comes in it might be time to part with a RoJo immediately upon that signing. Wouldnt it be great though if he gets a shot in an Arians offense with all those weapons and we can trade him for real value early next year! A boy can dream haha

I really think people will try to look too much into these things. Smart coaches utilize the talents they have. I remember a time where a lot of people around here and I were in disagreement because they were saying Cooks wouldn't get 100 targets and 1000 yards would be very surprising because he went to the Rams, and the Rams past usage of Watkins was the predetermining factor for Cooks inevitable failure. Arians has never had an athletic talent at TE quite like OJ, I'm sure he's aware of his skill set and how to use it.

Legitimately asking here, did Reid use his TEs at all in Philly before he wound up with Kelce in KC?

Yes he used them a lot. Chad Lewis and Brent Celek played huge parts in his offense
