Yeah, I've been wondering about that this season. It's rare that coaches get the one-year axe, but it doesn't seem like he's done anything to make you think he's a good coach. He might've been hired too early.

That said, Arizona's roster isn't anything special either.

Well, just for the mismanagement of his personnel alone he should be fired. I get that they've got a rookie QB, but David Johnson was a pretty good pass catching RB prior to this season. Maybe he should be used more as an outlet when Rosen is feeling the heat?

I didn't expect Arizona to contend or anything, but Wilks and his staff have done a terrible job with the pieces they inherited. That team should have been better than they were. I'd wager you're correct that Wilks is replaced.
That about sums it up. When every single part of a team performs well below expectations, it's hard to talk oneself into giving the coaching staff another year.

Detroit's offense bas been absolute TRASH since a bit before the mid point. I read somewhere that Cooter was giving a lot of freedom to check in/out of plays. Wonder if the new defensive coach preferred a stronger commitment to the run and Stafford's not happy with the reduction in freedom.

That and considering they already fired their original OC earlier in the year - I don't think a new coach will have too much of a detriment on Josh Rosen - and could maybe even have a positive impact ala McVay or Nagy.

The biggest shock to me is apparently the Bucs are considering keeping Koetter. Wow.

Saw something about Adam Gase potentially out at the end of the year, because the offense is underperforming. I don't see why- they've had Tannehill and Brock f'n Osweiler this year. No RB or WR to mold the offense around. It's really impressive what they've done with a bunch of spare players who'd be on the benches of other NFL teams.

Mike Tomlin needs to go he has cost the steelers 20 games the last 6 or 7 years if not more . He is so cute at interview time but he is among the worst coaches in terms of game management among high profile coaches ever to my memory .

Bowles will be out as Jets coach, thankfully! Jets are rumored to be going after Jim Harbaugh.

What are the most desirable coaching positions that are expected to be vacant? Does have a franchise QB and bellcow RB (Cleveland) outweigh having the best QB in the league (Packers)? Where would the Jets, Broncos and Cardinals fit in that?

Oddly, it seems like the best spots have been perennial league laughingstocks- Browns and Jets.

Gotta love the dueling narratives. ;)

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... ng-changes

"Cardinals: For weeks, it's been clear that the Cardinals are mulling moving on from coach Steve Wilks. As of now, it would be a major surprise if they stuck with him for 2019, despite Larry Fitzgerald and Patrick Peterson publicly stumping for Wilks. GM Steve Keim has already done research to prepare for a move. If he does somehow stay, Wilks would be expected to make major staff changes, including moving on from both coordinators. One option on offense if he did stay would be to bring in Jim Caldwell (if he doesn't get a head job) to call plays and help develop QB Josh Rosen. But at this point, Wilks may not get the opportunity to offer that."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300000 ... -next-year

Thats the second Cardinals player after Fitzgerald (see post earlier in thread) who wants Wilks back it seems.

I personally do not see that likely - I think Hue Jackson is more likely destined to be like a Norv Turner, Rod Marinelli or Gregg Williams - a Co-Ordinator who bounces from team to team every few years.
