It's exactly that. This class lacks a true undeniable stud and doesn't have depth either. Once you get around 1.06-1.07, I think things are going to fall off a cliff.
Isn't that kind of par for the course this time of year? The mid/late 1st is typically for guys who's value escalates heading up to the draft. No one was very excited about Kamara or Hunt or Kerryon or Michael Thomas at this point in their final college season. They were all just names on a page similar to the bevy of names we have this year that look like they could or could not make for nice 1st round fantasy picks.

You are definitely right about the lack of a true stud though.
I don't know about that. I was hyping Michael Thomas all season in his last year at Ohio State. He was firmly in first rounds throughout that year. Kerryon Johnson was a fairly known name as well. You're correct though that sleepers will come. It happens in every draft class. But, that's a huge dart throw contest to figure out who those will be.

Going into the season, the consensus from draft experts seemed to be that RB's would fall off from past years, WR's would be respectable, QB and TE was questionable. So far, I'd say that's been the case.

Yeah but that's my point. It's not that people didn't know their names, it's that they were just names on a long list of guys that might turn into those kinds of players. The consensus wasn't really excited about using a mid 1st on them at the time. Kerryon was merely that guy for Auburn who got a ton of carries but was banged up and didn't seem to have NFL measurables. It wasn't until closer to the draft and then when a lot of capital was spent on him in the draft that he really became a player people were excited for.

Same goes for guys like Hunt, Penny, Kamara, etc.

There are LOTS of guys like Kerryon/Thomas right now. Lots of WRs projected to be 1st round NFL picks in various mocks that some fantasy owners are excited about and others are meh on. A next tier of RBs that could be day 2/3 NFL picks and end up as popular FF choices if they land in a good spot.

As we approach the draft some of those guys will separate from the pack.

He's been on my radar for a few years now, and looks really good. Collin Johnson out of Texas is also putting up numbers and no one is really talking about him.

I'm not gonna lie, the fact that he's 6-6 makes me want to write him off for the most part. It's an arbitrary cutoff, but just like with QBs - how many can you think of in history who were 6'6" and truly relevant players?

How many 6'6"+ receivers have ever been drafted in the first two rounds though? I'm not aware of one currently in the NFL. Evans and Calvin are both 6'5", and I doubt that one extra inch would make such a big difference that someone couldn't be a fantasy-relevant WR. It's probably more a factor of rarity: there just aren't that many NFL-caliber WRs who are 6'6"+.

(I also see some places that list him at 6'5".)
Team 1: 2012-2016
2013 Champion, 2012 Runner-Up

Team 2: 12 Team PPR - 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 R/W/T, 23 man rosters, est. 2016
2021 Champion, 2020 Runner-up
Tua, Purdy Geno, Carr
JT, Ekeler, Mostert, Javonte, Chuba, D. Harris, M. Carter, J. Hill, Spiller
Chase, AJB, Amon-Ra, Aiyuk, Olave, DJM, Dell
Andrews, McBride, Engram
IR(3): Chubb, M. Williams, Rodgers
Taxi(4): J. Palmer, Tolbert, T. Palmer
2024 Picks: 3, 4, 5

Team 3: 12 Team PPR, 6 pt Pass TD - 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 3 R/W/T, 28 man rosters, est. 2019
2021 Champion, 2022 Runner-up
Jackson, Love, Tannehill, Z. Wilson
Barkley, Mixon, Mostert, J. Wilson, CEH, Gaskin, J. Hill
J. Jefferson, Diggs, Waddle, Evans, Metcalf, Sutton, R. Moore, Slayton, Berrios, Carter, Dortch, Powell, Raymond
Kelce, Dissly, Hooper
2024 Picks: 1

If we are talking about Collin, I wasn't overly impressed with his ability to get separation, but only saw a glimpse of him in the OK St contest. So not a big enough sample....
12 team, 35 man rosters, 1/2 PPR, 10 round rookie/FA draft
Qb: Geno Smith, Matthew Stafford, Trey Lance
Rb: Jonathan Taylor, Joe Mixon, Austin Ekeler, Saquon Barkley, Cam Akers, Isiah Pacheco, Jeff Wilson, Chase Edmonds, Pierre Strong, Jordan Mason, Jaleel McLaughlin
Wr: DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Diontae Johnson, Darnell Mooney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Jakobi Meyers, Laviska Shenault, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Denzel Mims, Richie James, Michael Wilson, Demario Douglas, Trent Sherfield

somewhat agree but I also just think it's because I'm sitting in a computer chair, not running an NFL team. It doesn't matter how much I like a player, a team needs to like them and invest in them to have fantasy relevance. So us nobodies do need to wait until April comes around and names are being leaked to media and then the actual draft happens.

I rarely see a college heigh hold at the NFL combine. Usually they come in shorter. Usually.

It really just depends on your movement. Megatron and Evans are freak shows. You're not supposed to be able to move how they do on a football field at the WR position. They're not the norm.

I feel like some taller WR's just can't sink their hips as well. You have a higher center of gravity and in some cases you have too much leg on you.
