Team RB or Team WR

Postby mlynarcm » Fri May 11, 2018 9:08 am

THIS IS PPR... When I first started Dynasty Leagues in 2013, I came in with a redraft mentality and RBs were king. But I quickly learned in the dynasty community RBs might get looked at as kings, but young stud WRs were Gods. Over the past couple years I feel like theres been a shift in the mindset of the community. A few of the rookie RBs came out of the gate as studs and the rookies WRs have mostly been flops. But it still appears that outside of 2016 there's been more WRs in the Top 10 non-QBs. So why do I hear now a days of playing a RB over a WR? When did RBs become more valuable than WRs?

Over the last four years there has been 25 WRs and 15 RBs in the Top 10 players. Lets pick sides and battle!!!!

young stud rb's win championships. Complementing them with proven veteran receivers is an easy way to win.

Stud RBs seem to produce more on a PPG basis than stud WRs. At this point I lean slightly running back, but I expect it'll correct back to receiver in 2-3 years.

Well based on the image you posted it's actually alot closer than 25-15. You have lynch in 2014 & Kamara/Hunt in 2017 listed as WR. That flips the #s to 22-18.

Also, the running backs were just better in this class.

also whats important is number of rb 1 or wr 1 weeks in a season. some times receivers tend to have a 10 -200 -2 tds, but also a 1 for 15.. rbs typically seem to be more stable on a week to week basis

While your super stud WRs (OBJ, NUK, AB) typically always crush, a RB10-15 i think will have a higher floor than a WR10-15 based mainly on the fact that there are 32-48 starting RBs in the league (assuming half the league is RBBC) yet there are 96 starting WR at any given time. With that in mind you look at target share based on Run vs Pass from teams and RBs will have more touches, and therefore have the higher floor

Great to build with wr, but since there are fewer top 10 rb's, that gives more value to the top 10 rb over the top 10 wr

rb's for sure have the higher floor week to week. But receivers have higher floors when looking year to year

But if you get a Top 10 WR odds are that they will remain atleast top 20 for the next few years. With all of the RBBC over the past decade made that position volatile. You have about 7-8 RBs whose jobs are guaranteed then its questionmarks. The new #1 dynasty RB Gurley, almost didnt make the top 10 rankings last year. Theres players like Fournette whose in the top 10 and has value now, but if he dies off as the season progresses again, JAX will bring in another RB and he'll be in a committee.

Team with 3 Stud RBs have a better chance of having only 1 Stud RB the next year, than a team with 3 Stud WRs ending up with only 1 stud WR the next year.

What your graph shows me is that if you don't have one of the top 3 RBs for that year, you're better off with a WR. Since Leveon Bell is the only RB to be in the Top 3 for more than one year, over the last 4 years, it kind of shows that WRs are better in dynasty.
