I’d add Mixon to that list and many more rookies .
49ers can have him at that price!

I can't wait for this to blow up in their face. Never been a fan of him being a true #1, and he just got paid like he was. I'm avoiding at all costs...

I love it...but I've always been one to buy McKinnon and think a lot of people are misjudging him. I've laid out why I think this in numerous places, so won't type it out again here. Here's a link to previous discussion on the kid.

Except that, perhaps - Mckinnon is viewed by the 49'rs as being more talented with higher upside than Hyde. Prob why they wrote the check. Why make attempts to re-sign a guy they may not have confidence in? That, wouldn't be lateral, it'd be taking a step back by wasting money, time, and potentially production.

lmao... How was Hyde better? As a former Hyde owner... Thanks but no thanks. I'd much rather have Hyde and his "potential" to be someone else's problem.

I won't be selling high on McKinnon. Either you believe in Shanahan, or you don't. I do.

Agreed. McKinnon also projects to be an excellent scheme fit in Shanahan's offense. Teams don't "overpay" players if they don't have to, the demand for McKinnon and Dion Lewis must have been higher than anticipated. Satellite type RBs continually look like good dynasty investments moving forward.

This is incredible news! Totally makes up for the meh landing spots for Sammy and P-Rich. Can’t wait to see McKinnon light it up in that offense.

Yeah this is a tough one. I feel like there's a pretty wide range of opinions on McKinnon, and I've been pretty firmly in the non-believer camp for quite a while (frustratingly keeping him on the end of your bench in a shallow league is an easy way to lose patience with any player pretty quickly). I like him and think he's above-average back, but nothing more than that. This signing though would imply that he IS more than just an above-average back.

I feel like the opinions I'm reading right now have more to do with Shanahan or Lynch (or the 49ers offense in general) than McKinnon himself. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'm not sure where I'm going with this, but I guess that's my point. I don't own any shares, but I have no idea if I would be buying or selling in this situation lol. I just feel like... he hasn't done enough to earn that contract.

Having said that, I'm a big Breida fan and am pretty devastated by this signing. I mean I assumed another RB was going to come in, just not a big contract like that. I thought Breida was starting to show enough stuff at the end of the season to justify a bigger role, but apparently not? Idk.

He was right at 4.0 yards per attempt and close to 60 catches. I'll take that "potential," especially at a lower cost

My point is that scheme and coaching often determines a player's fantasy production. I don't think McKinnon is a superstar, but I believe he's talented enough that Shanahan can make him a fantasy superstar.

Cowboysfan33 wrote: Wed Mar 14, 2018 8:30 am It seems like this has to hurt Breida’s value, I do agree that McKinnon will get most of the work so will Breida just be a 3rd down back? What about Joe Williams? I’m happy for my McKinnon share but I think this hurts everyone else in the backfield.
Unfortunately for me and my Breida share, I think Breida is the odd man out. McKinnon = Freeman, Williams = Coleman. If Shanahan is trying to recreate the Atlanta backfield, I think those are the pieces to do it with. I know he likes his backs to have catching ability, so if Williams doesn't show he has that ability, then I think Breida will take over that role. But as of now I feel like Williams is the 1b.
I’ve got Breida too (on a different team) and I’m thinking you’re right about Joe Williams with the Coleman comparison.

I'm excited that I own McKinnon. He has the same skill set but is more athletic than Freeman so hopefully they can improve that offensive line then he can be top 10 PPR in Shannahans system
