Thoughts on Mark Andrews

Postby Triton85 » Thu Jan 04, 2018 7:19 am

So there is all the RB hype (deserved) and talks about WR.... I've only seen 1 TE mentioned for this draft at any point

I'm sitting at 1.03, 1.06 and 2.02. The teams at 1.07 & 1.08 are probably the most TE desperate teams in the league. Team 7 only has Graham, while team 8 only has Engram. I'm debating either:

A. selecting Andrews to add to my depth and prevent them from getting a TE
B. offering them Njoku to see what sort of return I can get (maybe 1st) and draft Andrews at 6th
C. Just take BPA available at that point - maybe WR2 or RB4-5

What is everyone thinking on this guy? He's performed great so far over 3 years (112rec / 1765yrd / 22td) and is a nice sized overall

I don’t see a point in trading njoku just to draft another 1st round TE. If you’ve got njoku feel free to trade him but don’t just go then draft Andrews

yea, only considering trading Njoku if I could get above value with them knowing a TE wouldn't be available in the draft lol

But in general does Andrews warrant a mid/late 1st draft cost? Or is he more late 1st, early 2nd type

To me no Rookie TE is worth a mid first, theres too much a developmental learning curve ( the three year rule for receivers is even more so true for TEs)resulting in reduced value a year or two after they enter the NFL. Late first early second for me

Im hoping to land him in the 2. round. same with WR, I think RB are gonna be very hot this upcomming draft, thanks to, Fournette, Kamara, Hunt, Cook Ect.

Everyone hopes to land their Cook or Hunt. All you need i a Wr or maybe a QB next to Sutton and most 1. rounds picks are taken..
I hope that Ridley and Andrews fall into me at 1.12 and 2.01

trading njoku now would be akin to buying a new car parking it in the garage after driving it 500 miles and then trading for another new car next year , unless you just like eating depreciation or buying new cars it is a losing bet ! Haven't watched a lot of andrews but from what I have seen and what njoku displayed in a a sub optimal setting you are trading a lexus and buying a kia !

only TE that thrills me thus far is the SDSU kid and then only if my league mates are snoozing on him and he drops deep in the draft which from what I have seen he won't.

Is Andrews clearly the top prospect? I thought it was pretty close with Gesicki - plus Goedert has been moving up, and Fumagalli also looks a good prospect? If he's clearly above, then take when you are comfortable taking him. Otherwise I'm waiting and will (try) to target whoever drops the most out of those four. 3rd round would be ideal!

Where did you draft Njoku? If you can get more than you paid, definitely sell, otherwise Ertz and another year of development for Njoku isn't the worst position to be in.

I got Njoku for next to nothing in a trade earlier this year - my preference is to keep him, but also was debating if Andrews is good enough to stockpile depth and block 2 other playoff teams from having a shot at what I had thought was the top/only TE prospect

You have 3 great TEs. 1 established TE1, 1 ready to produce given opportunity, and 1 elite prospect. You are more than set at TE short term and long term. You should be focused on acquiring talent at other positions. Stay focused.

You know your league better than me, but I'd be surprised if an Engram owner drafted a TE in the first round. Jimmy G owner might.

People like depth lol... had to make roster limits on some positions because people were stockpiling - 1 guy had 7 quarterbacks at 1 point

Yea I think I'm aiming BPA for 1.06 and try to trade 2.01 away.

If Andrews falls I may grab. but thinking I'm set at the position for now

This is the exact reason you DON'T draft a TE to "block" anyone. Last year's class was the best that I've seen from a talent prospective, and even then it took a unicorn-type season for one to be immediately productive (in that the entire WR corps for the giants was wiped out + Engram is more of an H wasn't asked to block much). I think you'll be much happier going BPA, and if you really want Andrews, my hunch is that he'll be cheaper next year.

Don't bother drafting TEs; you'll be able to buy low when they predictably start their career slow.

I agree with the car analogy above, besides the Lex/KIA part. Andrew's is very good and will be a solid pro, but keep Njoku for now. He showed well last year and he was raw, think he did better out the gate than most expected. Andrews is the TE1 for sure in my opinion but there are solid second tier prospects.
