Kirk Cousins Discussion Thread

Postby slaughterrt » Mon Sep 15, 2014 3:48 pm

Does RG3 come back and retake the starting job? Or is he relegated to back up duties?

Or...

Is he traded by the week 6 deadline?

Just something to think over.

Nah the Rams already have a QB who can't stay on the field.

If cousins plays well he is done in Washington - but won't be traded until the off season.

Nice trade redskins. Nice. Trade.

When I saw him go down, I immediately thought "He's never gonna get that job back from Cousins!"

I know the "Washington football team" sold the farm to draft Bobby G...but he can't stay healthy. If one of them got traded, I would think Bobby G would bring more value back in a trade (although this is debatable). I think Cousins is obviously the safer pick to keep.

I for one have Cousins I a couple of SuperFlex/2QB leagues...so I am very interested to see how this plays out.

Conventional wisdom would say yes, but then again if you have two capable QBs and are selling the guy who from the beginning was your starter, other teams will know what's up and probably not give you much more for RG3 than they would have for Cousins at that point. Assuming there is not a bidding war that happens. I can't imagine there would be though, outside of the Rams and I guess Cardinals I don't know who would be looking before the offseason.

I could see a few teams looking to buy now. Tennessee, St Louis, Arizona, Tampa, Houston, maybe even the Giants, Jets and Bills (although the Bills are winning). Could be fun.

Some of those teams I can see but the Rams and Titans already have injury plagued young QBs. Why would they double down on that? Especially the Rams will certainly be staring at a top 3 pick so they could well go out and draft someone rather than trade for Griffin. They don't have a ton of veterans on that team so they aren't really in much of a rush.

Ok I'll try one:

If Cousins does well in Washington - the regime that drafted he and RG3 will get fired.

I could see that but...

Tenn probably gives Locker a chance to finish the season, he isn't terrible
Tampa seems to like Glennon, not sure what is going on there. Don't trust Lovie Smith to do anything sensible.
Houston just signed a FA QB this offseason, don't see them grabbing another
Giants will give Nassib a shot before signing someone else
Jets seem pretty happy with Geno's development, I would stay put if I were them
Bills EJ looking much improved. Not lights out but improved for sure. Probably not time to give up on him yet.

Arizona and St Louis both seem like reasonable teams to try to trade for a QB - though STL may be happy with trying for the #1 overall pick.

I don't see RG3 being traded before the deadline.

We have been down this road with Cousins before, he has come on in relief of RG3 and looked good. However, when he is the announced starter and opposing teams game planned for him, he has looked poor. It seems many people have forgotten the last three games of last season. I think he would have to play extremely well to keep RG3 on the bench. Washington has so much invested in RG3 and he has only played 4+ qrtrs in this new offense, so no one can draw any conclusions yet.

I have RG3 and Cousins in a 2qb league and couldn't be happier about Cousins taking over. Much better qb right now than RG3 will ever be.

I'm a long way from being convinced by Cousins. His stats from the 5 games he played last year are pretty poor (52.3% passing, 4TD, 7 INT) and, while he put up good numbers at the weekend, he was playing against a pretty terrible team. He'll have bigger challenges in the coming weeks and maybe he'll show growth and prove himself to be much better thank I think he is, but I am pretty low on him at the moment.

The only thing I think he has over RG3 is health. That's a big thing, considering what RG3 has gone through, and I can understand writing him off on that basis, but I think RG3 has a lot more talent than Cousins.
