Yeah, those Browns QBs were studs the year Barnidge went over 1000.
To be fair, the Browns WRs that season were:

Travis Benjamin (125 targets)
Andrew Hawkins
Brian Hartline
Taylor Gabriel

and they were frequently trailing in games. So, Benjamin and Barnidge ended up having career years in garbage time. Washington probably won't be any good this year, but with McLaurin there, and Gibson getting a lot of hype, I can't really see Thomas getting the type of volume Barnidge got.

But he could round out at about 60-75 targets.

Which at the upper end of that, that's enough to be fantasy relevant, albeit very barely

That’s a nice narrative, but doesn’t fully play out that way. Barnidge picked up a lot of TDs in the fourth, but less than 200 yards in that season where he put up over a thousand yards.

The garbage time largely went to Benjamin.

Actually if Gibson and Mclaurin are for real they should create a high volume TE by scheme so there is a chance he matters for sure.

I scooped for free and flipped him when he got a bit of camp buzz. I don't believe he becomes a viable TE option in fantasy.

The guy is a starting TE on a team that will be losing a lot of games, and he's been the biggest/best red zone weapon in camp. He's arguably the 2nd option on that team in terms of targets. He's got a shot.

They were always trailing pretty badly, so garbage time wasn't just limited to the 4th. They lost 8 of their 13 games by 2 TDs or more. No shock that Barnidge did nothing of note after that season.

LOL. I had the opportunity to get either, and went for Thomas every time.

I think he can be a low end TE1. He's huge and word is he's been the go to red zone target. I could see 60/700/8.
