This is a fair assessment...ArrylT wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 7:11 pmI guess that depends on what an owners expectations are for Gordon. Obviously yeah, if you're looking for that magical 1600 yard season, or even a WR1 season from Gordon, chances are quite likely you're going to be disappointed.
However we all know that the Patriots system is difficult to master, and that the Patriots expect a lot of work & effort from their players. And yet somehow Gordon managed, after joining the team Week II (ie no OTAs OR Pre-Season) and in the most actual NFL playing time he had in 5 years to put up a WR4 season in 12 games (11 if you exclude Week I Cleveland). His targets & production last year put him on a 1000 yard pace. Again we are talking about a guy who has played a total of 10 games in the past 5 years, joining one of the most demanding offences ...
So I think an argument can actually be made that Gordon is indeed as good as people remember. The question is not about his talent - it is about whether he is able to stay on the field. In the end Gordon owners will likely be happy to get whatever production they can get out of him - but I think the question has been answered about whether Gordon can perform. After all would the Patriots, and Brady especially, support him to the extent that they have, if they did not feel he was able to make a difference?
Whether or not he stays on the field - as we all know - thats almost impossible to predict - but what he can give you when on the field should no longer be a surprise - at the very least we can probably look forward to more boom / bust WR3, if not a possible low end WR2 type ppg season. Up to each owner to determine what that cost is worth to them.
I own him, and have for years... he was useful at times for me last year, as I dealt with injuries to my studs, and then right on time he was suspended again...
Like many others, we have deep rosters, and there's been little motivation for me to have released him over the years... I've floated offers to others over the years trying to get something for him, and have been told flatly 'no' by anyone I have spoken with... in most cases, it's almost like I've insulted them by even including him as a thrown in for other deals... I've gotten ribbed and razzed for keeping him on my team, and not releasing him... but I also know that these same owners that are trying to trigger me into dropping him, would be falling over themselves to pick him up as soon as he gets reinstated...
so, if his value is that he is essentially untradable, I'll just hold onto him and get the most I can out of the 8 or 10 or 12 games he plays... it beats dropping him, or giving him away for a 3rd... and if he puts up numbers on par with what he did last season, then in the end, that's production I can live with...
