What to think of Tyler Boyd

Postby spotxc » Thu Apr 27, 2017 11:24 pm

As in the title, john Ross selected at 9, what's the thoughts on Tyler Boyd going forward now?

He takes a hit with another WR in the mix, but I still like him as a decent buy low if you can get him pretty cheap (3rd or 4th). He had a solid rookie year, nothing amazing, but he looked good. Just have to stash him at the end of your roster for a while potentially before you get any sort of return.

He's a capable slot WR in a good offense. View him as Jamison Crowder 2.0 and you'll be happy. Expect him to be more than that and you'll be disappointed.

You need to wait for his 2nd contract.

Big slot. Like him a lot. Solid first year. Career WR3 with WR2 upside if you ask me. Outstanding age adjusted production and a nice first year that showed more downfield ability than most gave him credit for. I value him as an early 2nd in 12-team leagues at this point, particularly this year with a serious lack of WR talent outside Corey Davis imo. I think LaFell takes a backseat to Green/Ross/Boyd, they spread the defense out vertically and horizontally, challenge the outside with Ross/Green and the middle of the field short and deep with Eifert/Boyd, and the run game improves as the defense is spread out.

Also think Ross addition increases Dalton's stock this year significantly. Really want them to draft some OL, and hold on a RB before round 4 so that I can pick up some cheap Hill shares (and depending on the back, some shares there too), because I honestly don't blame him for his dip last year. Healthy Gio Bernard, always consistently >4.3 ypc, also dipped under 4 ypc last year. That run game was not favorable for the backs. I think Hill and Gio are both still very talented, and either could be a RB1 this year in an improved offense with the majority of the touches.

Still the same. Not like he was ever going to be a WR1. He'll just now be in the slot full time which is where he'll win.

John Ross doesn't have much of an effect on Boyd in my opinion. He's unlikely to be a target hog and will likely play outside and run deep a lot to take the top off the defense. Boyd was pretty obviously best suited in the slot last year anyways. Still think Boyd has a shot at being a WR3 next year which is probably his ceiling but that's ok for me

I like him a tad more. I posted him as a winner in my winner/loser post. Ross and Green will really open up the middle for Boyd and Eifert I think. Just need realistic expectations, he isn't a WR1. He's a WR3 with WR2 upside.

He's going to be 4th in line for targets. Has anyone 4th on their team in targets ever been a WR2 or even WR3?

Tyreek Hill? =O

A previous poster compared his position to Crowder, I like that idea. I'm holding Boyd, think he'll thrive in the slot.

Fair enough, although I can't imagine getting excited about a ceiling of around 600 receiving yards.

Do we really think his rookie year is his ceiling?

I was never big on Tyler Boyd, before he was drafted or after landing in Cincinnati. Never being on his bandwagon, I see the drafting of John Ross as a major shot at him.

If you own Boyd & have a bigger opinion of him than I do, I think you're going to have a hard time trading him away for what you think he's worth. He's now one of those guys that is a hold & you have to hope for the best.

actually like him as a buy low now , ross and eifert are not the most durable guys on the planet green has been dinged more and more as he has gotten a bit older so as a bench asset getting him for less and hoping for a bigger role is an OK scenario .
