Demaryius Thomas going forward

Postby UnsafeAtAnySpd » Wed Apr 05, 2017 10:49 am

I traded for DT in a league yesterday, but checked the forums for discussion before accepting and found little mention of him. Honestly, he's a guy that I've never been that high on for some reason (even at his peak value). He'll be thirty by the end of this year (barely), has some work ethic concerns, questionable QB play, and a solid WR2(1?) on his team working against him. Still, even last year, he put up over 1000 yards.

Does he remain a solid WR2 play for a few more years, does he bounce back a bit this year, or does he continue to plummet in value? It wasn't too long ago that he was a top two round startup pick, right? Where are people seeing him drafted nowadays? I have him in a 14 team league, that in the startup last year, he fell to me at 4.10.

Solid buy for competitors or a "sell low"? FWIW, the league I bought him in, I'm playing to win this year and paid the 1.23 and 1.32 (2 player copy superflex).

His days of being a top 10 WR are behind him, but he's a solid WR2 to have on your team. I don't see any reason why he won't put up 1,000+ yards and 6-8 TD's a year for the next 2-3 years at least. He gets hammered a ton, but I got him cheap and will ride him until the end simply because the market doesn't value him like they should IMO.

As long as you expect WR2 production, you'll be happy with what he gives you. But make no mistake, there will be weeks where that Offense puts up 9 points and he has a 2-34 stat line.

I see the rest of his career kinda going like Fitz, he is a solid WR2 that can put up WR1 numbers, but no one is going to pay that price for him. He'll be solid for another 4-5 years I bet.

Without DEN upgrading the QB position, and absent a huge leap forward by the QBs on their roster, DT is a mid-ish WR2 that's viewed as "old" by most of the dynasty community.

Last year many claimed he was severely undervalued, this year I think most of his owners are overvaluing him (which might be why there have been very few DT trade threads), but once both sides settle on the fact that DT is no longer a stud WR1 then I think he'll become a solid buy for contending teams for the next couple years.

In theory he should at least have 2-3 more fairly productive seasons ahead of him, and if/when he fails to produce at a WR1 level this season and he reaches 30yo in DEC, I suspect he'll be a popular trade target for contenders that are looking to shore up their WRs for a playoff push. For DT's value it's all about the owner's perspective of him right now, and I think this season (for the first time in a few years) will put us in a situation where both buyers/sellers are valuing him closely enough that we'll see a lot more shares of him being traded than we have in the past couple years.

This guy is the classic worth more to your team than you can get in a trade for him. If I was competing and needed a WR2 or 3 I would be looking to buy cheap. Agree that WR2 for next 3 years with upside depending on QB play.

I think DT is under-rated. To me, he is more QB proof than a lot of other WRs and I expect him to be a WR2 type for at least 3-4 more seasons.

Seems that a lot of you are in line with my thoughts. He should be a solid WR2 type (with some upside) for at least 2-3 years. Those types of players tend to be undervalued but are great pieces for competitive teams, especially in deeper leagues.

We'll see who those two picks that I gave up become come draft time, but for now I feel like it was a solid trade and gives some idea of value for you guys (as pointed out, he doesn't seem to be getting traded a lot currently).

If you own him don't trade him unless you are trapped in the middle of a huge rebuild and even then wait until the season. His value is shot right now

I think it depends what "role" he's playing on your team. If he's your WR1, not great. If he's your WR3 or so, that's perfectly fine. I traded 1.08 and 2.08 for him about 3 months ago.

The thing that makes it difficult to trade for him is that his name dictates that he still carries a little extra value. Any time I think about making a move for him I wonder why not just go to the other side of the field on his same team and go after Emmanuel Sanders instead. Sanders is only 9 months older, scored basically identical to DT last year, scored only slightly behind DT the year before, and can be had for about 1/3rd the price.

what are the prices we are talking about here? I much prefer DT to Sanders. Sanders will tank if DT isn't in the game but the reverse isn't true. DT is still a WR1 that can win all over the field...sanders is a nice complimentary guy but not a guy I want to rely on
