Swapping Picks this year

Postby danrose24 » Thu Mar 23, 2017 6:11 am

I'm in a 10 Team Superflex PPR Dynasty League 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex

I currently own 1.06, 1.07, 2.02, and 2.10

My trading partner owns 1.01, 1.03, 1.09, 2.03, 2.06, and 3.08

I finished mid-table but have a pretty good team, the other guy had 2 wins and is in full rebuild.

The Trade

I give: Pick 7

I get: Pick, 13, 16

Right now I don't love anyone at 1.07, but there are a lot of guys in the 12-20 range that I really like and think could be good value. Is it worth taking John Ross, Juju, OJ Howard at 7 or getting two chances at some high upside guys in the mid-2nd round. Thanks for any feedback you can give!

To me that's a really tough one... I think the value is solid... personally, I prefer the 1.7, but if you're in a specific need for depth (ie needing more picks) or if you have a really solid team (ie able to take a chance on a couple fliers), then I could see where picking up the 2 extra picks makes sense...

Maybe float a counter offer of his 1.9 and 2.6 for your 1.7

Moving back 6 spots and picking up pick 16 seems to me like you would be dropping into a lower tier of rookie talent. I'd rather only move back 2 or 3 spots and pick up the 16 pick if possible.

Right now it seems people are really trying to get into the top 6, at a minimum, but are starting to warm on guys in the 7 range too. This is all pre-NFL draft, but afterwards I bet the 7/8 range will be sought after too. I think I would hold, even though I like some prospects that should be available in that portion of the draft.

Personally, I want to be drafting 1.08 or higher this year. There is a solid group of players that I like, so even with bad NFL destinations taken into account, there should be 7-8 elite players.

That said, the second round will have a lot of successful players, you just will have a harder time guessing which ones will produce. I traded the #8 and #14 for the #1 overall last week, which is a very unusual trade (I feel like I got the much better end of the deal), but I can see why he did it-- picking at #8 he should still get an elite player, and picking at #14 he will have the chance to choose from a deep second tier to select a second great player.

So you can't go wrong either way, IMO... but since you already have the 1.06 and 2.02, I'd rather have the 1.07 than the two second round picks. You won't hit on all three of your picks, but you'll have an excellent chance to hit on 1-2 of them.

You never know who will fall to you at 7. People end up liking their guys no matter what. Maybe Mixon, cmac are still there & have great landing spots. Even if your not crazy about howard, Juju or Ross. You could play out the first few weeks, see how they do. Then decide to keep or trade based on what you see. Getting a 2017 1st for that pick could be a better option. I feel like your dropping a tier with this deal.

Much will change with rb evaluations based off of where they are drafted. All the talk of the top 5, top 6, top 7 will be revised shortly. Very few Rb that deserve it will rise up and many that get drafted into poor to less than ideal situations will fall in hype. Since this isn't a strong wr draft, I'd say moving back is a solid idea.

if your trade partner is in full rebuild it may lessen the chances of him accepting a deal like this but I would shoot for a trade back and try to garner his 2018 1st even if it meant trading for a later 2nd and next years 1st say 2:6 and 2018 1st for 1:7. Failing that I might sit tight until after the draft and hope kamara or someone goes to a perceived great landing spot and hope a league mate reaches for them allowing you to get a prospect you have rated higher . My 1st question I always ask when posed a deal like this is how much roster space do you have to roster rookies . Do you have room to roster 5 rooks and hold them until they find their role ? if not perhaps next year's draft is the way to go. Knowing your current roster and roster limits could really help clear up this situation to your best advantage.

It seems like the Superflex part is being ignored here.

I don't play superflex leagues so what is the likelihood that a QB goes in the top 6 because of it? In standard leagues there is a tier dropoff after the top 6 players but in superflex I would think that tier could be a little bigger and a QB or two picked early would mean you'd be looking at McCaffrey or Mixon at 1.07 instead of Howard or Ross.

On the other hand, Superflex also increases the value of those later picks. Whereas the 16th pick may be a little far down in a standard league, 3 or 4 NFL QBs being drafted early may make that more like the 12th pick in a superflex league.
