When did DeAndre Hopkins become bad at football?

Postby franklin43 » Mon Oct 03, 2016 4:07 pm

How is he being outtargeted, outplayed and outproduced by a rookie?

I understand this is dynasty, but we're almost a third of the way through the regular (fantasy) season and Hopkins isn't the plug and play WR1 we thought.

I don't see any reason to believe his volume will rise. He's not efficient. Am I missing something?

Is it time to trade Hopkins while he still has name value?

Teams are throwing a lot his way and leaving the deep ball available and O'Brien seems to have built his entire game plan around this. A good defense, like New England, can expose how ineffective this strategy is against a team with some backfield depth, but most teams don't have that kind of depth.

I've never owned him anywhere so I've paid very little attention to his career. Has he been efficient in the past or was he simply force fed due to being the only WR in town? Situations matters more than most want to admit

Please, go ahead and trade a young and highly talented WR because of 4 games.

He was a high volume guy scoring tons of points in garbage time. With the Texans being better and adding some competent weapons it was only natural he would regress. In fact some of us pointed that out in the off-season. However i didn't think it would be this bad of a regression.

He's always been an overrated heavily-volume dependent WR.

He's not getting the volume, he's not getting open whether it's against a double coverage or a corner who has him locked down pretty well.

Fuller fits Osweiler's skillset better (meaning Os needs his WR to be more "open" since he is not a precision passer).

With that said - a regression was obviously coming, but he'll still get his and have great games here and there; if you were expecting 15 targets a game I would be worried. But he will still get his; just not at the absurd volume people became accustomed to.

I think it'll be like Julio this season. He would be double covered and there are better options open, so the ball goes to other people, once teams figure out they are getting torched regardless, they will hopefully ease up on nuk.

I dont own anywhere so I dont really care if he flops hahaha

No chance I'm going to let all of this negative talk about Hopkins go without including my 2 cents (since I know everyone cares). Hopkins is a true technician. He's got amazing body control and hands. No one is better than him at jump balls. Buy buy buy. Any time his price dips at all is the time to pounce. All players have down weeks. It is inevitable.

I'd blame Brock Osweiler, but Nuk's quarterbacks last year weren't good either, so unfortunately I can't throw that in there with any sort of evidence to back it up. I do think he'd be better with last year's mess because he'd be getting the targets he deserves.

Traded Bell and Crabtree for Hopkins because of this and he was untradeable beforehand. Not worried at all.

'Bad at football'? It's painful sometimes to see stuff like this and wonder why I waste my time...

Is it possible he doesn't suddenly suck? The guy with a 800 yard rookie season (age 21), 76/1200/6 sophomore season (on 127 targets), and then last years beastly performance. Suddenly the guy has a dud, still sits top 30 options, and he's a bum worth questioning. Tough weeks happen. Check Julio. Still solid as he showed this week in a rebound.

He is young, has produced with a variety of QBs, and will be a reliable top 18 WR year in and year out in bad scenarios. You can argue if he warrants 'top 5 dynasty asset', but there is easy rationale for it. The only thing that should concern is his concussion history.

As was mentioned above, he's a WR technician with outstanding hands and control. He has good awareness, which he shows on numerous sideline catches. He makes highlight reel catches. YAC could be better, but hasn't been an issue to date. Will Fuller will be a benefit. Hang tight.

No need to be worried because unless Bell retires tomorrow, you lost that trade no matter what Hopkins does. Crabtree had a very good year last year and is having and will continue to have another very good year this year. Add arguably the top RB in the league and that's an extremely lopsided trade.
