3rd Round Reversal vs Snake (96 Teams)

So you're probably aware by now with my spam for Dynasty96, but we will be having a startup draft rather shortly, and I setup the draft to be a 3rd round reversal.

If you're unfamiliar with 3RR, here's how it goes. Let's say you get the first pick in a 12 team league, these are you draft picks:

1.01
2.12
3.12
4.01
5.12
6.01
etc

Now I've done this type of a draft before, but it's been a while. The thought is that a 3rd round reversal is more fair to all teams, since the teams sitting near the front get guys like OBJ, ARob, etc. But have you been in a draft lately that used 3RR? What was your experience? Can I have a link showing a draft that recently used 3RR?

What are your thoughts on the two vs each other?

have not done one in a long time, but my memories of it are not positive. don't really get the point, much prefer a traditional snake draft

never done a league that learge , sounds interesting but in a startup not thinking that format works just because of the penalty the late drafters pay in the disadvantage acquiring the elite players

I've been wondering the same thing since I saw it brought up in Reddit.

I don't think the problem is dynasty vs. redraft. The problem lies in 12 team vs 16 team league drafting.

If you buy into these numbers from http://subscribers.footballguys.com/app ... Calculator, then the #1 pick in the first 3 rounds would have 2008 or so worth of value. The number 16 pick would have 3102 worth of value.

That value won't be made up with the snake the rest of the way through.

Hadn't heard of this. Interesting. Seems more fair to me, but that's because there are only a few guys I want and if I miss I'd trade a TON to get them. Namely Julio, OBJ, AB, Hopkins. I would pay being at the back end of both rounds 2 and 3 to have one of these.

I did one last March. Honestly, it is the most fair (I drew the 1.01). There are 'commentators' that have never done it, yet that doesn't stop them from shooting it down. Don't listen to them. Draft position has no direct correlation to the final standings.

if memory serves--and i'll defer to those with clearer memory on this--the 3rd round reversal was really popular with the second wave of "professional" fantasy football in the mid to late 2000s, for all intents and purposes this was exclusively redraft. it was felt to be--and i agree--distinctly more fair than strict serpentine.

with the prominence of auction formats in the late 2000s, it largely began to fade from use and popularity. it was felt--and i agree--that an auction format was more fair than any form of draft.

i am unaware of any extensive use of 3rd round reversal in dynasty formats.

i do not have sources or references for this. i am going exclusively by my memory and impression, either or both of which may be faulty.

I despise 3rd round reversal. With the huge amount of depth now of great players, drafting first is usually a disadvantage. This adds an even bigger disadvantage to the the people at the start.

Long gone are the days of Ladainian Tomlinson ruling the roost. Time to get rid of this format altogether

I couldn't agree more. I would hate the 1.01 in a dynasty startup, with out it be being 3rd round reversal. If it was a 3rd round reversal, the last pick would be so much better than the rest.

Depends on the league size to be honest. In a 12 team league there is no need for 3rd round reversal. 16 Team leagues or bigger I'm fine with.
