The Miami Running Game: Miller or Ajayi?

Postby kengram1213 » Mon Dec 21, 2015 10:44 am

I know Lamar Miller is an Unrestricted Free Agent, but the way they are using him in Miami is absolutely ridiculous. So, Jay Ajayi gets a little burn, and scores a TD. Maybe it was garbage time, maybe it was a 2016 NFL audition. But what do you think? Does Miller stay? Pick up Ajayi? Thanks!

If the new coaches have half a brain. They keep him.

After his pitiful usage, there is no way Miller re-signs with Miami. He'd be better off signing elsewhere where they will actually use him.

Ajayi will be your opening day starter for Miami and Miller will be on a different team.
I don't think it should be that way as Miller is more talented IMO but I think it's a virtual lock at this point

Wouldn't buy Ajayi regardless of what happens to Miller.

Seems a curious statement. Why? The knee, or talent evaluation? Because he's looked pretty darn good in limited opportunities. I realize Miami hasn't been great at utilizing Miller, but I think it's more to do with the fact that they want a between-the-tackles guy. Miller is very efficient in part because they don't ask him to do the kind of dirty work that would be expected of someone like Ajayi. Situation would be solid I think for a back that profiles well between the tackles.

I think Ajayi has looked pretty good in his limited touches this year. His value is obviously highly dependent on Miller leaving (and the Dolphins don't look committed at all to Miller) but his touchdown run this week and his few other big runs earlier in the season showed he can be explosive. Biggest concern is long term injury risk but for the next few years I think he could become a solid back. I'm buying

Knee. His clock is ticking fast. But I guess I can see the value if you're close to a title.

Miller is a local guy so there is a chance, albeit a small one, that he stays if they bring in a new coaching staff early in the offseason and Miller likes what they are saying. It is way more likely that he leaves in which case Ajayi's value will depend on the new coaching staff and what is done in the draft/free agency.

I can't see Ajayi just inheriting the job if Miller leaves. The RBs behind Ajayi stink out loud. They will almost certainly sign or draft someone in the event Miller is gone.

Very likely. And there's no guarantee that a new staff in Miami would be any more competent in establishing the run than the current regime. Although they could hardly be worse.

If I were Miller I'd sign elsewhere unless the money is ridiculous and he's just loyal to Miami because he's getting used horribly. I think Miami tries to keep him though.

As a Miller owner I'm trying to acquire Ajayi early in the offseason under the auspices of getting Miller's handcuff and then hope Miller signs elsewhere. In that scenario I think Miller's value goes up from being in a functional offense (hopefully) and even if Ajayi gets the curious Miller treatment his value is higher than it is now.

This stuff is mostly over rated. With this logic you should be avoiding guys like Lacy and Landry too(maybe you don't target or like them either). If you can get 2-3 years of rb2 value from Ajayi at his current price your doing well.

This. If I was getting comparable money from another team, I'd leave. Miami has proven that they aren't dedicated to getting him the ball, and Miller has voiced frustrations about his role on more than one occasion. Plus right now there's not a ton of stability with the organization as a whole. If I could get similar money with a stable team that I felt would feature me more, I'd be gone.
