Doug Martin Outlook (ST & LT)

Postby WhatWouldDitkaDo » Thu Aug 20, 2015 8:04 am

Just want to see what people are thinking both for this season and the future. Martin looked fast again in that preseason game, but the offensive line looked horrendous. However, I could see him being a high-end RB3 or maybe a low-end RB2 if Winston gets going this year. On the flip side, does Martin have a chance to start elsewhere next season?

This is his last year of relevance imo. Hope he stays healthy and takes advantage of being the only decent rb on the roster. I'm confused why a team with a rookie qb and cautious coach like Lovie didn't go get a good rb in the offseason. But I guess that's what makes Lovie special, the ability to avoid the incredibly obvious.

He's good enough to be a RB2 if the line can do anything this year. He's not young so his options next year will likely be limited.

I like Martin and will buy from doubters, not sure I believe in the components around him as much as I do in him.

Dude's contract was $6.8 million with $5.5 million guaranteed. I think he will be okay.

I think he could have a top 15 season. I would put him about where I have Ellington and Hyde. Not high expectations but I still expect something decent out of him

Things I like:

- Cupcake schedule (only a game against the Texans in week 3 that looks concerning)
- Named Starter
- Flashed in the past with good pedigree
- Slimed down and looks better than past few years
- Good WRs who can take some pressure off the 8 in the box

Things I don't like:

- Expiring contract with passed up team option
- Charles Sims has some talent
- OL issues
- Rookie QB who might attract more 8 in the box
- Injury history

For his current price I think he is a buy because there is some upside there and I am optimistic the passing game and slightly better OL could help things. I think you will see him do above average and be a good sell high candidate by mid to late season as injuries to RBs make owners desperate.
