I believe that if you look at his contract, there are options and performance/starter incentives on it for basically nearly every year of it. So the moment that they find a better option, they can cut bait, or reduce Taysom back to his gadget role at minimal cost. The only major sting is on the first year it kicks in (next year) when it has nearly 20 million guaranteed. That's actually smart; and makes sense - he can help ease a transition with a new QB, be they Rookie or FA - or play alongside Jameis much as he was earlier this year.

And if it's not looking great coming into 2023, then they simply cut bait, at a rate of about 5 million dead cap a year. And that would be the minimum you'd owe him, if he's simply playing his gadget role, and not starting.

It's a pretty good contract for both sides, to be honest. Taysom would have to go full god-mode to earn the full 40 million, though.

Contract Notes:
$10.1M guaranteed at signing (2022 salary)
2023 salary fully guarantees in March 2022 (injury guaranteed now)
$1.5M of 2024 salary fully guarantees in March 2024 (injury guaranteed now)

2021 Incentives
70% snaps + 11 team wins: $150,000
3,250 Passing Yards: $150,000
90+ Passer Rating (min. 224 attempts): $150,000
25 Pass TDs: $150,000
65%+ Completion % (min. 224 attempts): $150,000
600 Rushing Yards: $150,000
50 snaps + Super Bowl appearance: $450,000
OPOTY or MVP: $250,000

2022-2025 Incentives
3,250 Pass Yards: $500,000
4,000 Pass Yards: $500,000
90+ Passer Rating (224 attempts): $500,000
25+ Pass TDs: $750,000
30+ Pass TDs: $1.25M
65% Completions (224 attempts): $1M

Next Year Escalators (cumulative)
Incentives are only available if 224 pass attempts are made the year prior

Regular Season
70% snaps + 11 team wins: $750,000
70% snaps + 12 team wins: $1M
70% snaps + 13 team wins: $1.25M
600 rushing yards: $500,000
Pro Bowl: $500,000

Conference Championship
50% snaps + 10 pass attempts + 10 pass yards: $750,000
50% snaps + 10 pass attempts + 10 pass yards + team win: $750,000

Super Bowl
50% + 10 pass attempts + 10 pass yards: $1M
50% snaps + 10 pass attempts + 10 pass yards + team win: $1.5M
My napkin maths makes that 14.2 million dollars in incentives - the majority of which I fail to see him hitting.

Soooo... yeah. Payton and Loomis know best, never fear.

Where else is taysom getting all those guarantees? Every year there’s better qb’s signing 1 year deals for less $.

The amount they’ve invested in Taysom is nuts. I agree it’s not franchise crippling or anything, but it’s still poor decision making.

I've got a solid team in a league, but dying at QB with Matt Ryan & Trevor Lawrence. I got a good start out of Cam, now a good one out of Taysom Hill. I'm going to see if I can use the legs of these terrible passers to get me a title!

Almost like having a 3rd RB on your team. Worth the gamble.

‘Napkin Maths’ would be a pretty solid FF team name

Chase is just going to be one of those WR's that has bad drops. It's going to be frustrating at times for Burrow owners and Chase owners, from time to time. Long TD ends up being an INT instead. Great talent, just has inexplicable drops from time to time.

Elijah Moore would have 2 TDs right now if Zach Wilson had any semblance of accuracy. Has played solid today, but of course whiffs on a wide open throw in the back corner of the end zone.
I may or may not be related to Bryan Edwards

All I gotta say is buy Elijah Moore while you still can. This dude is getting open at will today. Slay hadn’t been able to do much to stymy him so far

It's almost as if a QB who had one of the best starts as a player in league history might actually be good. Huh! Who would have guessed.
