According to NFL Analyst @wyche89 on whether Calvin Ridley could be moved: “I’d think so. The fact that he and the team have been so quiet and he hasn’t surfaced, it appears like both sides could be looking for a fresh start.”
They wouldn't be ready to move on from him, unless:
- They think it's a real possibility that this won't be the last of his troubles, or
- They really just want to be done with him (this doesn't track for me)
Otherwise, why even breathe a word of this and give up your plausible leverage? Would Wyche really just shoot blindly into the dark on this without a source? Any new team would need assurances that he's going to play before consummating the deal; doubly so if it's the sort of haul Atlanta will likely seek in a rebuild.
I guess I had just assumed he was coming back in '22. This seems far more ambiguous, and way more troubling.
At the moment I lean to "without a source" or at least without a credible source. Someone undergoing deep psychological treatment would not be advised to make regular media updates. It makes sense Ridley hasn't made any public statements, and wouldn't until he felt his return was imminent or he felt his departure was turning permanent. And it makes sense that the organization would be respectful of his medical privacy and not comment on his situation until Ridley said it was okay to do so.
This sounds like a bored reporter looking for something interesting to say about the Falcons. It's not like there is anything else happening around the Falcons that is noteworthy. Another season outside the playoffs, an aging QB who is guaranteed to return for a lame duck season . No RB, no other good WRs, an OL that needs addressing, and a DEF that could use about 8 upgraded pieces. If the reporter wants to write about the Falcons and have anyone read the story, he might have figured his best chance was to talk about the team's best player. Even if there's no new news about him.
I wish there was some news about Ridley and hopefully some positive news about his well-being.
