Why?

He has had 26 carries for 99 yards all year.

CEH was coming off back to back 100 yard rushing games prior to his injury. The good news for Williams is he will get 3 easy run defenses in the next 4 games but he is zero threat to take CEH's job. KC does need get back to trying to run the ball to help their horrid defense or they will be on the sidelines come playoff time.
Didn't say it was rational, just have a strong hunch. He seems to fit in that team in a more comfortable way for Mahomes
My gut appears to have won this week….
17/59, 3/27 and you’re anointing him an upgrade? No one would be happy with that line. His two walk in TD’s are the only bright spot. And we know how fluky TD’s are.

Yeah, he's definitely not. CEH looks the much better player.

He got more usage, though I suspect game script came into play.

Either way, CEH is clearly their best back, though I don't think he is a lead back.

I'm not surprised that Damien Williams had a nice day thanks to those two short TDs.

I feel like CEH is a good player, but victim of being out of the lineup on days like today where those opportunities were there. I still thought the Chiefs would use his receiving abilities quite a bit more than they do.

Dude averages 3 yards per carry today and you are taking a victory lap? Man the internet is a strange place.

The guy has a great fantasy football day. He should take his victory lap.

last season he averaged more than 4 targets per game, the highest number for a chief RB since jamaal charles. considering you have mahomes and kelce/hill, dumpoffs aren't that appealing when you can probably wait just a couple of second to have a good chance to go for 30 yards, so i'm not sure why more targets are expected. this season he was getting less looks, but it's been only 4 games and a half, and he has a couple of receiving TDs so i wouldn't freak out (this also reminds me why i love non-ppr).

he is good, but he's no westbrook and was severely overdrafted. imagine if the chiefs had a running back that could take any carry to the house...

There's a difference between how a team uses RBs. CEH has 65 carries in 2021 and zero TDs. Either KC isn't giving CEH the ball inside the 10 or he isn't being effective when given the ball inside the 10.

OTOH, in Williams' first start, he gets 21 carries and scores 3TDs. Not to mention that in 25 carries coming into Sunday's game, Williams had already scored 2 TDs. That sort of usage indicates the coaching staff realizes Williams is better in the red zone. With 4 fewer rushing attempts this season, Williams has outscored CEH 5TDs to zero.

That says a lot to me. That's the kind of difference that leads to a team starting a new RB when both are healthy. CEH is officially on notice.

The TDs were 3<.

Not that RedZone opportunities aren't valuable, but they're hardly impressive runs.

I do agree with you though that there's something about CEH that the Chiefs are reluctant on. They won't even unleash him as a receiver despite him coming into the league as the best receiving back in his class.

You're right, I was wrong. Only 2 more rushing TDs yesterday for Williams, than CEH has all season.

I'm saying these were short yardage TDs.

Three things:

1. I agree that CEH is not an ideal lead back and KC really hasn't used him as such despite draft capital.

2. I don't think KC has used him to his strengths.

3. I don't think Williams game yesterday is a reflection of that. He has better game script to work with.

Damien doing work all the way from CHI and on the Covid list. Dawg's FPPT has to be off the charts.

the chiefs have 5 rushes from inside the 5 so far this season. they all went to williams, who scored 4 times.
last year, helaire got 9 carries from inside the 5: 1 TD, 3 yards gained. maybe he just isn't that good in short yardage situations.

I watched a lot of the Chiefs last year, if you watch the first game of the season he had what felt like a lot of redzone carries where he was met 3 years behind the LoS by a defender (usually JJ Watt)
