Although to think Kittle the better player Hockenson is being utilized more in the passing game as someone who was insanely high on Hock and wanted to buy before this year I feel like it’s a decent deal.

Generally I'd agree, but just to play devils advocate: What if Kittle continues to disappoint and Hock continues to ascend?

The gap could widen and this could've been the only opportunity to make this trade before these two players' consensus value/ranking flipped

That’s the main reason I pulled the trigger on this there’s no doubt in my mind that Kittle will finish the season as a top 5 TE but I think Waller Kelce and Hockenson (Maybe Gronk) have a good chance to finish above him

While it's possible, much more often it's not the case.

I don't think Hock is the 3rd best TE talent in the league, but he might have the best situation out of any TE in football right now.

I believe you're going to be happy with this trade for 2021 and will be face-palming in 2022. SF will (most likely) be getting a QB upgrade and DET will likely bring in much stiffer target competition and a QB that is less reliant on the middle of the field.

As long as you don't miss the sell window this is a good trade.. but it's hard to stare at elite production and move on from a 24 year old player.
