FX’s show, The League was funny and I’m glad it existed. However, it pissed me off that they were in an 8 team league.

Also that they let one of the wives play.

Since when? GTFO with that nonsense.

I definitely have a hard time taking 8-team leagues seriously, no matter how many starters they roll out every week. I’ve never played in a 10-team dynasty league, but I’ve played in a few redraft leagues, and it wasn’t terrible. Gotta at least be SF though.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

Maybe a little off topic, but one of my favorite leagues is a 4 man league with 10 starters and 1 bench spot. It’s redraft but it is fun as hell for the four of who are friends. It’s also redraft (the draft takes about 10 minutes).

In dynasty, league size doesn’t matter to me, but short benches do. Imho at least 300 players need to be rostered during the season for it to be consider dynasty and not keeper.

Similarly, I don't get any enjoyment out of a 16 team league, which is rare.

Lotta great stuff here.

I agree that 8 man leagues aren't that fun. They are a little too easy and everyone's roster looks great. I can't count the number of people who walk up to me to show me their rosters, only to tell me it's an 8 man league after I give it high praise. That's literally the purpose of 8 man leagues.

Ray's comment made me lol.

Just like M-Dub, I've played in a couple 10 man leagues, all with my former co-workers. It's fine, nothing to be taken seriously. I've never played in a 10 man dynasty league. That feels too much like 8 to me.

The 4 man league? thebeast, I can only assume the reason why that sounds like so much fun is because you can compete against your best friends 3 or 4 times a year. Do you guys have a playoff? Like top 2 teams play once for the championship and bottom 2 teams play for the loser bowl or something? That sounds like a blast.

And Cameron, I'm shocked you don't like 16 team leagues? I'm in a few 32 team leagues (I'm commish, actually) and I find it super fun. The schedules changed from year to year, the competition is deep, and there is always trading going on.

That said, my favorite dynasty league size has always been 14. You can play each team one time in a 13 week regular season and do three weeks of playoffs, bypassing that often-useless week 16 (soon to be 16 & 17).

8 Team leagues is all I've ever played.

The most annoying part is probably that most strategy and waiver wire talk in articles / podcasts etc is based on 12 teams and is mostly irrelevant to 8 Team leagues.

In dynasty, trades are few and far between because you can just pick up players off the waiver wire.

Would be good to have a thread about strategy in 8 Team leagues. I know it's mostly 'studs win' but I think there's still an edge to find.

Anyone else play 8 Team leagues? I know they are frowned upon but you are safe to confess it here

TE - Kittle, Waller, Higbee

Well yeah, obvious troll job that reads more like a Sleeper chat room but he’s not wrong about the league size thing.

The distinction between dynasty vs. keeper was always unclear to me. What does DLF say on this topic in general?

My league in signature rosters 16 x 24 = 384 players in season. But right before the draft we cut down to 16 players and have an 8 round draft. Does that make us "Keeper" since we only keep 2/3 of our roster every year?
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Xavier Hutchinson
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: All my picks except 3rd rounder

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

My wife played in our redraft for a few seasons. It was a great way for her to learn the positions and how the game works. The only problem was she is competitive and very smart so she would look for the *right* answer of who to start in a coin flip or on the waiver wire. She spend like 3 hours trying to decide haha. I'd be like they both have upside but there isn't a right answer to who is going to score more this week between the two, go with your gut and be done with it.

She got 2nd place once I am pretty sure always finished top 5 and it's a pretty competitive league on year 12 or 13 at this point. So... wives can play fantasy football.

8 team and 10 team leagues though.... Randy Moss voice -- "straight trash homie"

Yeah actually my wife was never into football. Then along came fantasy football at her work place and she did it to get to know her co-workers. She ended up winning the league in her first season, and now she's in three leagues, wants to go to games, and watches football with me on Sundays!

So I say if you can get your wife to play fantasy football, do it!

In 1991, I threw together a 4 team league on the day that I first heard about this thing called fantasy football.
The following season, I started up an 8 team redraft league. After a couple of seasons we expanded to 12. That seems ideal for redraft.
Then in 1995 I discovered dynasty football and helped organize a 16 team league. That is my preferred format ever since.

I played in one 5-man league that we drafted at a fantasy football convention at a casino in Minnesota in 1998. Actually, it was a 10 team league -we each had two teams, one in each division, and didn't get to play ourselves unless both teams made it to the title game. We had a blast since it was a bunch of guys who knew each other only from the newsgroups online.

I have no problem with what size your league is, or what trendy rules you play with, since we are all on our own ff journeys.

Enjoy!!

btw - my wife won my work league redraft league last year in our first season. 8 teams, and 3 of them had never played fantasy football before. You just never know.
