Re: Music thread
Hum just recently released their first album in more than 22 years and it’s goddamn outstanding. Comeback albums can be hit or miss (probably more misses than hits, tbh), but this album isn’t just a competent return to form. It’s legitimately the best work they’ve ever done. It’s like they took the best elements of all the bands that they’ve influenced over the past two decades (Deftones, Nothing, Greet Death just to name a few) and elevated the whole heavy shoegaze genre to a whole new level. This is my favorite track, but the entire album is a freakin’ masterpiece and easily the frontrunner for AOTY, imo. Can’t wait for this stupid plague to end so I can see them live. Enjoy!

Re: Music thread
Awesome thread.
Always cool to check out new music, or to be reminded of some classics. I thought about what to share, and since like I said I always enjoy checking out bands I haven't heard of, I figured I'd try to link something I'm pretty sure most of you haven't.
The band's name is Meute, and they are pretty unique, with a slowly growing cult following in their (and my) native Germany and now the US. They are a brass/horn band that became popular playing mostly "classic" electronic music hits in subway stations all over Europe. Think house/techno/sometimes hip hop or blues marching band.
As an avid (pre-covid) concert goer I'd like to share these guys, because both times I've seen them live with friends (Nashville and Dresden), ALL of the folks I was with were completely blown away by their performance. Not everyone's cup of tea of course, but if you love live shows I highly suggest you check out the videos below. There's a reason they made it to Nashville even as a techno band!
Sorry for the long sorta fanboy text, but I just love music so much I figured I may as well write a few words. Enjoy:

I’ll be honest, the first song wasn’t really doing much for me, but I still clicked on the second link and I started to “get it” a little more. In the right setting and mood (and on the right drugs - haha), I can definitely see how these guys could be a really fun live band. The third song was really cool as well, albeit in a more subdued way. Good stuff, man.
Since it seems like you enjoy horns, my girlfriend’s cousin is a trumpeter and has a cool EDM/hip-hop project called Balkan Bump. His music was actually featured in a Super Bowl commercial way back in February, before the world ended. Saw him do a solo show here in AZ and it was pretty entertaining. Here he is with several other brass players, Gift of Gab from Blackalicious and some white rapper I’ve never heard of before.
https://youtu.be/8KXd9p-qit0
Bonus track:
Since you said you’re from Germany, I can’t help but post a video of my second-favorite band, Elder, three-fourths of whom call Germany home now. Their bassist is the lone US holdout. Definitely more on the heavy side and nothing at all like Meute or Balkan Bump, but pretty amazing nonetheless (on the right drugs, at least - haha).

Hey all - I'm a musician and listen to a lot of different stuff. This thread is right up my alley.
Probably my favorite band/artist over the past 15 years that most people haven't heard of (although they're finally seeming to get some exposure) is Porcupine Tree. Ignore the weird name, they're really good.

Funny to see them mentioned here. I hadn't ever seen anyone else talk about Porcupine Tree (agreed, the name?!?). But I have "Stupid Dream" and "Lightbulb Sun" and both albums are really good. Cool to find someone else that likes the band.DynastyDrum30 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 7:22 pmHey all - I'm a musician and listen to a lot of different stuff. This thread is right up my alley.
