No idea how I've missed this thread.. feel like throwin me a bone and explaining it some, so that I can be lazy and not fumble through 21 pages..? Please?!?!
We just throwing out random songs that are worthwhile to listen to? Or is it more complicated than that?

You'll have to ask FantasyFreak why he created it. Once he did* I just ran with it and started posting daily. I wanted to keep it active, but at the same time I did not want to overwhelm the thread so I usually only post 1 song a day. That way there is always something new, but other people hopefully do not feel spammed.
For the most part I think people just share whichever random song inspires them - and that is what I was doing for the most part. However you'll see that I changed it up recently. I'll share that in my next post.
Any time someone else posts a song I make sure I listen to it at least once and I can say that at least 2-3 times I have discovered a song or band that I had overlooked / never heard of thanks to other people sharing.
* - I do not know why I never thought of creating it myself because I am always listening to music but am grateful FantasyFreak did.

Starting with Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze and going from there - the past couple of weeks what I have been doing is slowly going through a book on the history of Heavy Metal, from its early beginnings through to mid 2010s, and seeing what more I could discover. I'd say so far I'd already heard about 75-80% of the bands, but not even all of the songs mentioned are songs I had a full grasp on their importance.
For example I've always liked Thin Lizzy, and even got to see the latest evolution (Black Star Riders) live last year - but I had some how missed the gem Emerald. Same with Steven by Alice Cooper.
Anyways all of the stuff that I have posted from Purple Haze and going forward for the time being is all from this book. There are 10 chapters - each on a different genre/era of Metal - and each chapter has a "homework" section with a list of approximately 20 songs or so.
The first chapter was on Proto-Metal - bands from the 60s & 70s that helped inspire the genre known as Metal. Then there is New Wave of British Heavy Metal (early 80s England) and after that will come Glam Metal (mid 80s to early 90s USA) and so forth.
So since I am limiting myself to 1 song a day - that 1 song comes from the chapter on Metal I am reading about.

Man.. I actually like that idea/approach. It's pretty cool. Think I'll pick up a book soon, myself.
